>$8

Is it worth it?

>> No.5170935

Any reason you can't download it for free?

>> No.5170943

Yes, but only if you like SHMUPs. It's a good, but difficult and short game, like most SHMUPs. The emulation is decent and the added content is nice, if very minor.
>>5170935
This is the Switch version, which is a port of the genesis game with a small number of added features; specifically an unlockable ship from TF3 (Saturn version also had this), an 'easy' mode and some video & region options.

It’s $8 honestly who cares. I’m pretty sure I pay like $8 for a single drink.

Do you ever buy a good product in hope of getting more, or do you always just download for free and encourage devs to not give you more of what you want? The sega 3d classics on 3DS were excellent ports and these ports are by the same guys. We should support them to get more ports made, given the quality on 3DS and the hardware strength of Switch we might even get some quality shit they missed, like OutRunners for example. Not exactly shilling because not every sega classic was worth buying, but the possibility of more is out there and I think it would be worth supporting.

The Sega Ages release comes with a lot of extra content. Also it's good to support an official release instead of just pirating it like a scab

Paying for this isn't going to be getting any money to the original creators though. So it's not encouriging anyone to make anything new.

There aren't ports. AM2's releases on 3DS and switch are emulation. Lovingly presented and feature equipped emulation I'll grant you. but still emulation.

I thought they were. For example, Streets of Rage 2 on 3DS. It lets you remap all buttons, gives you a choice of different Genesis sound chips, stage select, Relay game mode, EXCELLENT crt shaders, wireless local co-op and a 3D mode that causes the screen to pop out like a rounded CRT screen

>> No.5172882

So it offers nothing I can't do with a free emulator and Retroarch. great sales pitch. Really earning those cents an hour.

I don't think this is supported yet on the 3DS port of RA but please let me know if it is because I'd be all over that shit. As far as I'm aware you're still limited to curvature shaders but they aren't 3D.

When it's the first time this series has been sold in 20 years, and when SEGA is showing an active interest in reviving old IP, it's kind of a big deal that they're selling a Thunder Force game. If it's received well, maybe we'll see more content focused on this IP.
That said, it's still an old shmup. It's short, hard, and very niche. It's worth $8 if you like that stuff and think the new features are interesting, but it's not if you don't. No one is obligated to buy games they don't like.

>> No.5172929

>>5172876
Sonic 1 and Lightening Force aren't nearly as feature-rich as the 3DS ports were, but they're not barebones emulation either. They do have new features that the original ROMs don't, and which can't be matched by emulators (yet)
>>5172893
If you read the dev blogs, these aren't the original ROMs or simple emulation. They reprogrammed the games and designed a hypothetical Genesis successor/add-on to handle the 3D, which they then emulated. It's pretty cool how much work went into the 3DS versions.
Everyone needs to stop responding to the obvious troll. Everything he's said has been intentionally wrong so he can bait you into arguing. Just discuss the game.
