As Super Mario World 2, it's arguable how good it is. As Yoshi's Island, as its own thing without being compared to the first game, it's a really good time and still the best Yoshi game to this day.

I haven't played any of the modern DKCs but it's easily my least favorite of the original trilogy

DKC 3 is easy to hate (for valid reasons). But it's hard to deny that controls are still better than most of performers, some of the music tracks are high quality (the cave levels and overworld for example), the world is vibrant and variety in gameplay is adequate. Probably worst of the 3 but not a bad game at all.
