The stage had nice music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQP31Fk30hM

The stage is a little frustrating, especially with the electric sea weed and bars of electricity. But the stage is not impossible to get through.

I actually find pic related from Earthworm Jim to be more annoying to play through.

You had to be retarded, I'm not just saying this because it's a meme, that level was not remotely hard and should not have been hard to anybody who was used to the level of difficulty you'd find in an average nintendo game. The game, itself, does get hard, that level is not part of the difficulty.

The biggest joke is that this isn't close to hard. Let alone close to the hardest section of this game.
I'd mention the bullshit hallway to shredder. But I guarantee most didn't even get that far.
Most probably failing before ever finding the technodrome. And a good number never getting past the third stage. Which is the coolest. Because you can drive over foot soldiers.

NES TMNT isn’t hard, people just played it like Super Mario, moving as fast to the right side of the screen as possible. You have to grind, returb to health locations to heal up, rescue captures turtles, gain scrolls, boomerangs and stars (assigning a secondary weapon to each turtle). I usually do this:
>Donatello: Single Stars
>Michelangelo: Boomerangs
>Leonardo: Triple Stars
>Raphael: Scrolls

I never got near the Technodrome as a kid. I couldn't even get past level 4. I sucked at games and I still would beat the water level in my sleep. I liked the level because of the cool water scenery and the cool looking top down dam section that leads to it, I always thought there had to be some secret all the way on the right side near the mossy wall, despite never finding anything. I've been at friends' houses where we couldn't beat battletoads, or where we couldn't get far in fester's quest, and I heard kids at school talk about how hard Mike Tyson was, etc., I never ever heard a single kid ever complain about this level, it wasn't even a thing until AVGN made that video.

>The biggest joke is that this isn't close to hard
It is hard though, especially for being so early in the game and unlike anything else you have to do. It's hard in a very frustrating kind of way between the water physics and a countdown timer, where you could make it all the way to the point where the last bomb was in sight but then run out of time. After you've practiced it enough times, you can reach the point where you can do it reliably, sure, but even then it's not fun, just a chore you have to do before you can keep playing the actual fun part of the game.

>Let alone close to the hardest section of this game.
Except for a few of the really annoying jumps you have to make, the rest of the game is hard in a way that's fun, using the different turtles and various sub-weapons to overcome a variety of obstacles. It's just standard escalating difficulty, losing makes you want to try again. The dam level is just test of your ability to deal with pain-in-the-ass idiosyncratic water physics and gets tedious really fucking fast.

And no saves or passwords on this game, so you had to beat this damn level every single time you played.

>> No.5165487

>>5165354
>>5165459
you're retarded people did not play it like they played Mario. People played exactly like you describe (as well as other tricks like exiting/entering levels to until you get the enemy set you want). And the dam level requires no tactics or strategy other than maybe a little health management on the turtles. It's purely memorization and execution (just like Mario in fact except much harder).

As for whether the rest of the game was hard? I dunno man it was pretty difficult in a variety a ways. Maybe you've been playing the game for 30 fucking years and have all the strategies down pat but that just means you have a warped concept of what difficulty means in this particular context.

Nothing is that bullshit. If I hit that as I kid, I'd have noped WAY fucking harder than some of the other shit in this game.

I dunno, the swimming part is demanding of your precision, if you fuck up much at all then you basically have to redo it.

I had no trouble with it as a first-time player, but I came into it as an adult who has been playing for almost their entire life. I can see how this would be a difficult part or at least an infamous skill filter to kids and/or people that aren't as good at this kind of thing.

It's actually very forgiving except for the one infamous section where you'll suffer a little bit of on lethal damage even when you're oretty precise, if you're just fucking around you might lose half your life bar for one turtle, that's the "impossible" section

I confess that it has been maybe over a year now since I played it, and I don't remember much of the Dam. I just remember that I failed the first time, and that on the second attempt I was almost flawless and still had only 13 or so seconds left. For a two minute timer that isn't unreasonable, but it doesn't leave much room for error. It might be that I was fucking up on the "impossible" section, I can't really say anymore. I just remember thinking "this wasn't hard for me, but I'm a games expert and an adult, someone who was a kid and/or not experienced probably would have a hard time".

Incidentally, I gave up because I didn't understand what the game wanted me to do in the buildings. The manual said something about rope, and by that point I was bored enough with the actual platforming game that I didn't care to find out more. But what I'm saying is, the dam isn't exactly a slouch level, and even if I didn't find it hard, I can see how it would be hard for others.

>> No.5165937

>>5165808
never said the game was bad.
I think the dam level is bad. Not the worst thing ever but the game would have been better without it. Not only because it's hard but because of the specific mechanics involved.

>> No.5165983

>>5165801
>It's actually very forgiving
No it's not. There are currents pulling you and pushing you into damage on top of momentum. You can easily make a few minor mistakes in the early part that cost you more than 50% of your health until you get the currents and timing down. You can take a wrong turn and miss a bomb making it impossible to finish on time. Every time the clock runs out, you lose a turtle.

It's not forgiving at all, especially compared to the preceding levels. Sure it isn't impossible and you do have 4 turtles to work with. But it's neither forgiving or easy especially the first time you try it.

I beat this section when I rented it when I was like 9 years old. There is no excuse other than memeing to say this is impossible. Sure, it's a jump in difficulty using completely different gameplay/physics but it's entirely possible.
