Even though it was released in 2000? I'm having trouble understanding what defines a retro game from a modern game.

I mean, yeah, technically there's no official guideline to go by, but if there was, would Deus Ex fall more into the rerto spectrum, or the modern one?

There was a version of Deus Ex released for the PS2, as there's no way the game could be run on a 5th generation console.

It ran on Windows 98, that's why. Same with Diablo II. If it was designed to be able to be on a platform (in this case, an OS) from before the cut-off year off 2000, then it's retro.

Id be careful with that definition. Id call Serious Sam TFE Retro, runs on win95. However Half Life 2 ran on windows 98 when it was first released.

No. Id go with >>5163643 in the sense that Half Life 2 would hardly work if at all on 1999 or earlier hardware. Remember windows 98 was supported till 2005(theres even nvidia geforce 6xxx series drivers for it).
