Huepow was a prince with an enormous responsibility placed upon him. It was his job to guide the dream traveler and save the world.

You can't blame him for prioritizing the fate of his Kingdom - his entire world over his friendship with Klonoa.

That being said, he was clearly regretful by the end. It's really Lephise's fault for not holding off on singing the song and letting Klonoa fully digest the truth.
