Whats the best way to play this sucker? As far as I can see it, all versions have fatal flaws that are fixed in other versions but there is no definitive release

>psx
FUCKING AWFUL render distance
Playing at higher than native resolution tears holes in the floor
>PC
Color pallete is terrible, everything is dark but the UI is really bright too much contrast, 32bit color doesnt even fix this
>N64
Gimped soundtrack
>Dreamcast
Game doesn't load previous save by default, easy to overwrite your career to save a high score.
Graphics are half-HD: tony hawks' model is high def (remade?) but all other characters with exception of Chad muska are ripped straight from psx and look butt ugly alongside the other models. Also some weird changes like the manual bar being blue and private carrera being removed start to wittle away at the artistic integrity of the game.
Also controls are stiff as shit, manuals are hit or miss and can really fuck up your combos
>Xbox (THPS2x)
All artistic integrity from Neversoft and co is gone.

It's not /vr/ retro, but THUG Pro is an Underground 2 mod for PC that retroactively ports almost every single level from the previous games (and even levels from that Disney spin-off)

Im getting on to it, whats the best version of that? Someone gave me a PC copy and i thought its 6th gen so it must just be the same game with higher res but im not sure - i heard the xbox version has a few extra maps and characters so I'll keep that as my 'play splitscreen with friends/family' copy. But what do you think is best for individual play?

>>5157684
I am aware of THUGPRO, although i like the THPS2 engine better than THUG
Also i like to play games as they were intended but without the technical limitations of the time. I prefer a game to have the original art, textures and models (as intended by the developers) but i want to erradicate bad framerates and small render distances as these are limitations not intended by the developers but the tech of the time.

*The same game as the console counterparts

Also i heard PS2 and gamecube have framerate issues even in emulators, is this true?

just play the pc version, it works fine after you use the patches.
PS1/N64 are different but still worth checking out if you want more THPS, what version to play there is down to your preference on better framerate (n64) or cd audio (ps1).

>> No.5157763

I 100%'d THPS2x years back and thought it was great, didn't sense a lack of 'artistic integrity' by any means. It includes all the stages from the first game too.

psx is the original, it's the best

Better than that pixelated, aliased, wobbling mess of graphics that PS1 games all seem to have.

>> No.5158163

Dreamcast and Xbox are the best versions. You're just nitpicky

>> No.5158178

2x is great OP. Stop it. The Hawk 1 levels in 2x don't work as well, but it's still good.

Also can you just emulate THPS2 on PS1 on PC and make it look great?

Can't fix poor render distance
closest ive ever got is hacking THPS2 to run in software mode @ 720p to look like a PS1 game but with high render distance but the color pallete is still FUCKED

>>5157731
I have no problems with the PC version except for the color pallete and contrast problems, trying to see if i can fix with dgvoodoo but I'm not having any luck

Menus are not original. Models are not original from PSX version. Private Carrera is replaced with Trixie. Manual Bar is blue. Grass textures are not flat. There is a sideways balance bar, that tells you when you're running out of grind (you're supposed to GUESS)

Maybe I am, but I want to archive the best version of this game possible.

I use this already, but thank you.
I really want to fix the color palette issue (see perfect/sloppy text - too bright, too much contrast, while the rest of the game is dark as fuck). I'm just now learning about reshade and sweetfx, dgvoodoo. We'll see how it goes.

Also, letting you know mate, you can get clearer textures if you go into display controls and select software mode, then relaunch with the launcher - for some reason it allows widescreen and high-res software mode which takes the blur off the textures and makes them look more like those on the ps1

>> No.5158452

>>5158423
>>5158437
Also, do you get an issue when running the game at 1080p where smashing windows, grind effects and blood splatter are still boxed in the closest 4:3 corner of the display regardless of the resolution? It really ticks me off.

What a dumb fucking gripe. You sound like such a bitch. The real problem with the Xbox version is that the OG Xbox's d-pad sucks dick, just like every other d-pad Microsoft has ever made.

>> No.5158787

>>5157682
3 sucks dick compared to two because the devs realized manuals broke the game and inflated high scores to accomodate it. You have to skate like a total geek and it isn't fun.

>Menus are not original. Models are not original from PSX version.
Yeah, they're better.

>Private Carrera is replaced with Trixie.
This is the only legitimate thing you listed. There wasn't any real reason to replace her,m but they're both shitty fap bait characters anyway.

>Manual Bar is blue. Grass textures are not flat.
These are completely trivial things to complain about.

>There is a sideways balance bar, that tells you when you're running out of grind (you're supposed to GUESS)
They added a grind balance bar because THPS3 was already out and it added a balance bar. A tool that helps the player is also not a bad thing.

If you're using the psx version as the standard for comparison, just play the psx version.

>> No.5160135

Xbox is by far the best version. However, the tony hawk 1 levels are far too easy with the easier physics and increased multipliers

It is also one of the few og xbox games that has perfect emulation

This thread inspired me to download and play it again. After 30 minutes I remembered why I never bought it and only used it as a rental. Its fun but after playing it for a certain amount of time I kinda get it out of my system and don't feel the urge to continue playing.

Anyone else feel this way? A game you like and want to play but never for too long
