Dreamcast controllers were OFFICIALLY supported in Capcom Vs SNK arcade machines WITH VMU support for your customised character saves.

Arcade sticks were too difficult for users and so they tried out the DC pad, clearly this demonstrates that contrary to popular belief, the DC controller is the best controller.

The Dreamcast controller was a complete disappointment after the legendary Saturn controller. SEGA should have just rereleased the Saturn 3D pad in dreamcast branding with a more modern analog stick design. I have no clue why SEGA thought it was a good idea to drop the 6 button layout when so many of the best games on the Dreamcast were arcade fighters.

Not having 6 face buttons was a big blunder, but I like the DC pad actually more than the Saturn pad. Something about it's small size and the way it handles, I can do things like pretzels much easier and more consistently on a DC pad than any other.

The D Pad on the Dreamcast is what bothers me the most, along with that hard plastic analog stick.

The DC controller is the template for every fucking controller since the original XBOX.

I wish they would have copied the Gamecube instead.

My inner child does think the VMU is an awesome idea, though.

Only the Xbox line really, Sony and Nintendo do their own thing

Yeah the analog stick sucks, and I understand why some people don't like the pad but to me it's perfect. At least for fighters, which is 90% of what I used my DC for.

No, Nintendo's pro controllers are basically XBOX clones and the PS line has just copied the XBOX features - analog triggers, for example.
Everyone is the same now, aside from the Joycons.

The Switch Pro is the only one from Nintendo that's really Xbox like, the Wii pro has more in common with dualshocks and the Wii U pro is shaped like a 360 controller but that's where the similarities end. Analog triggers aren't really a novel feature of the Xbox brand, they were an inevitability with both GameCube, Dreamcast, and Xbox having them as well as the Saturn so it would make sense for Sony to follow suit.

>GameCube
Gamecube actually had analog/digital double triggers which no one has re-used to this point, not even Nintendo.
Which infuriates me, because it made lock-on features much more usable when it came to toggling through targets.

why not just make the cabinet accept the vmu? pads really suck for fighting games.

I think the Switch should have definitely had analog triggers of some sort, especially the $80 Pro controller.

>concave, hard plastic stick

The worst thing about that pad. I would totally buy and install 3rd party rubberized replacements.

Meant convex.

It Doesn't even need to be rubber, a concave stick without those shitty plastic bumps would be miles better
