I must confess that I never really got into smb3, even tho I love most other NES games...

I think it's because I happened to play Super mario world first and it's kinda similar but better(?)

But I'm not trying to shit on the game, either!
I believe in many ways it could be the best game on NES and I would love to like it -I just don't happen to...

Give it an other try senpai. I consider it the best 2d Mario. World is good but there is just something about 3.

SMB3 is better than World.
Yeah, I know, opinons. Whatever.

I agree, SMB3 is probably my favorite Mario game.

I rate 2 (USA) and 3 both higher than World. And that's not to diminish world, I just think those games are so good. World also, over time, doesn't hold up as well because the platforming is just so unchallenging compared to previous games, it's still a great game.

>> No.5153558

I would agree that 3 is the better game, but it's also a bit 2hard4me and I get more enjoyment from World thusly.

The thing is World and the remake of the SMB1/2/3 with the World's engine on SNES - the movement is different etc. SMB3 on NES is the best and to be honest I actually like SMB2 on NES the best.

I agree - 3 felt big, ambitious and imaginative. Ironically, World felt smaller in comparison.

>> No.5154006

>>5154001
My biggest problem with World is that there are too many easy/filler levels. SMB3 levels never feel like filler and there's a very consistent difficulty curve as you go through the worlds.

>SMB3 levels never feel like filler
I disagree. There were a lot of levels that left me with an "okay, that sure was a level" feeling. I think it's because they're so short.

1. Behind the goal in 1-3.
2. Fly over the ceiling in the fortress.

>> No.5154582

>>5154204
To me, the fact that the levels are short allows me to never get sick of any particular level. Nothing overstays its welcome and it really helps the flow of the game progression move smoothly.

Huh. I only ever knew about the fortress one.

>Huh. I only ever knew about the fortress one.

Kinda surprising you didn't know about it. It was pretty notable for the the white block gimmick where you fall behind the scenery.

>> No.5154616

>>5154601
I knew about the white block trick. When you say behind the goal do you mean like you fall behind the white block and then go literally behind the background of the goal? I didn't know you could stay behind the scenery that long, I thought it only let you be behind those colored block things.

SMB3 was really good at making it feel like there was potentially some new secret around every corner.

>> No.5154950

>>5154652
i knew about all of these as a kid in like 94 or something. For some reason that information got passed around and everyone knew. There's a reason these whistles are available in the beginning of the game as the game lacks a save feature, so you can easily and quickly advance to wherever you were in the game.

>> No.5154962

>>5153129
It's an extremely close call, but I agree. The level design is pretty spot-on in both games. What it really comes down to for me is the fact that SMB3 has cooler and more varied powerups, as well as the fact that its levels are more visually distinct.

>>5154713
SMB3 was great at that, but one advantage that I do think World had over 3 is that the secrets themselves were way more substantial. That game had so many hidden levels, it was insane.

>> No.5155019
