I am working to correct my new girlfriend's subhuman taste in videogames (I had to delete several apps from her Iphone) and I need a curriculum that can bring her up to speed with my lifetime of hardcore gaming experiences.

So OP is probably just fucking around, but I do have a similar question about pc gaming. I’ve played Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, and the first Ultima.

Commander Keen is something I know I should try out at some point.

Consoles are easy enough to find a list of greatest hits or essentials for. But if I want a solid understanding of the history of pc games where should I begin? I know about Wizardry but haven’t played any of them. What significant games came out before that one? Besides the games I’ve mentioned what early pc games were significant in some way?

PC gaming is easy, everything pre-Doom, Wiz 7 and Ultima VII is trash. I wouldn't even bother with most DOS games aside from the above + Build games + some RPG's like Dark Sun.

Trying to start her on retro games is a bad idea.

Start her on Portal 2 coop.

If she can't get through that with you, there is no hope, you might as well not even try, because if she can't get into a game that is all about working together with her boyfriend in a novel and humorous environment, she is never gonna get into anything even remotely hardcore and will forever limit herself to mobile skinner box garbage.

Honestly though, 100% serious advice: Stop caring so much about what your girlfriend does/doesn't play. If she wants to play shitty ass candy crush/farming/dress up games, let her.

As edgelord as >>5150454 sounds it's ultimately solid advice at the end of the day. Just cum in her as often as possible and you really won't give a shit what she's playing.

Women who are seriously into guy hobbies and/or who have a lot of "guy friends" do not make good girlfriends. They're usually quite addicted to getting lots of male attention and at best will always have some other guy trying to get with them, even if you yourself are the one who got her into those hobbies and/or introduced her to those guys.

You can dismiss this wisdom as the made up ramblings of a sexist larper if you want, I suppose. Maybe you're the type of guy who will never even get the opportunity to learn the hard way. If so, it's probably for the best.

This is why people hate namefags. 4chan isn't your blog, jackass. No one should know or care who you are, and your personal life isn't /vr/ just because you're ancient. Your vain bitching is distracting from the thread, not improving it.

>>5150435

OP, what kind of games does she like? She's already playing games (shitty mobile games are still games) so use that as a starting point. Just start with simple, somewhat easy versions of those games. Then move to harder, more complex stuff if she likes a specific genre.

Focus on difficulty and complexity, not age.

She likes puzzles? Play Tetris, Dr Mario, Puyo Puyo. Portal is an excellent way to introduce her to moving in a 3D space while engaging with puzzles.

She likes platformers? Try Super Mario 2, 3, or World. Kirby is also an excellent choice, with very few weak games in the main series.

You get the idea.

2D is usually easier than 3D. Learning to handle modern controllers and modern 3D movement can take a while if you're not a kid.

Most importantly, get your head out of your ass. You can't force people to like something, and they'll resent you for your entitled disrespectful attitude if you try. Work WITH her tastes, respect her boundaries, and act as a helper, not a professor, and you might actually succeed. Keep disrespecting her tastes and acting like a brat and she'll just resent you and stop talking to you about games altogether.

Godspeed, faggot.

Why the fuck is everyone reccomending Portal for a normies' first person shooter game?
It doesn't teach FPS basics at all; there's no shooting of enemies.
The highly vertical levels and spatial confusion gives even experienced gamers nausea.
OP's poor girl would contract vertigo and be bedridden for a couple days.

A newcomer to 3D gaming would be best served by Halo:CE to be honest. It's not for nothing that game ushered in a new generation of FPS players.
If Halo's release date is not kosher for your autistic "not retro" fixation then have her play Turok.

>> No.5154520

but why focus on fps? they are arguably a boring genre, even holy cows like doom or quake are uninteresting for a lot of people (me included)
I've played halo ce, the single player is boring with always the same recycled maps and enemies over and over again and multiplayer would be only a frustrating experience for a new player
I don't understand the hard-on for fps, after sports games is the most pleb genre, even some mobile game is better

Let's not go into hyperbole now. It's like we're talking about our favorite brands of cig and someone says "even some chewing tobacco is better".

I don't disagree with you but you do realize it's useless to reply to namefags, right? As long as you call them out on that they'll register that as attention, which leads to repetition of the same behaviour and causes conditioning to attentionseeking faggotry.

Just stay on-topic and ignore namefag's names. Or better yet, just ignore it entirely. If enough people on this site can use their brain they shouldn't have any reason to use a trip or a namefield to begin with.

Ironic because I spent all that nailed-down time on /vr/ after my first son was born in March, 2013 but this was a much better board then - one worth constant posts. On RTS genre I would recommend Age of Empires (2).
Even if the person isn't into destroying the enemy, there's a lot of base building that most people can enjoy and then, maybe, evolve to the full experience.
