What are you talking about? Perfect Dark did a way better job of chugging at the sign of the slightest amount of action.

Goldeneye wasn't really innovative at all. It's just a regular FPS, although it was amazing because it felt so polished and of course the James Bond theme was cool.

Metal Gear Solid was innovative.

It basically launched the stealth genre. It had fully developed, cinematic characters, with a unique phone mechanism. The storyline references numerous real world political and philosophical ideas. It had music that responded to gameplay situations. It had VR training missions.

The fact is it just came up with a lot of cool, creative ideas and bound it together into one of the greatest games of all time.

I'll never forget the excitement of sitting down to play it for the first time in 1998, just the most atmospheric experience in a video game. I've just yet to decide whether I prefer Deus Ex.

Not at all. Not even in the 3D space is that true.

Goldeneye has better side objectives when increasing the difficulty and the map design is better on average imo.

>It basically launched the stealth genre

Thief came out two months later and is still seen as one of the best stealth games of all time. MGS was immediately outmatched in the stealth department by its sequels but Thief still stands strong on its own. Modern stealth games follow in the footsteps of Thief and not MGS.

It also created the stealth mechanics found in basically every stealth FPS/TPS.

Perfect Dark was made by the same people and came much later. While I agree it was a far superior game, it was not more innovative, because Goldeneye did most of it first.

It wasn't superior at all, it was significantly inferior. Too moderny, it was good but nothing on Goldeneye. Put PD in with the same pile as all the other good N64 fps games.

Meh, Dark Forces did side objectives first, and in my opinion, better.

Hell that game was pretty innovative too.
