How about you guys, get anything good at flea markets this week? My entire area was severely flooded so I'm happy it was still running this week, since they usually cancel it at the drop of a hat.

was also able to go to a rummage sale saturday but there wasn't anything worth mentioning there.

Passed up an NES Game Genie and Solomon's Key for $3 each a few days so I could get lunch instead. My head regrets it now, but my stomach sure didn't at that moment.

I already have a Game Genie anyhow. Though mine's black and this particular one was gold...

Haven't been able to get to the swap meet this past week. Money is nonexistent as I don't have a job, but I do come into enough cash to warrant a trip every few weeks. This week is one of those weeks, so we'll see what comes about.

You'd understand if you went out to flea markets regularly, and knew how hard it is to find games at all, then you realize that there are people doing the exact same thing, buying the games right in front of you so that they can turn around and put them on ebay (or even take them to their own spot at the same flea market) to sell them for ebay prices.

That was a big part of why I even started to do these videos, not for myself, but to show when and how you yourself can go out and get games like this.

If you're not willing to go to flea markets before the sun comes up, or go to garage sales and socialize with people then I don't know what to say.

I do this EVERY week, so there's still plenty of finds to be made. You just have to want it hard enough.

You don't build a big collection for cheap by waking up at the crack of noon and then expecting to find boxed SEGA genesis games instead of Halloween decorations and baby clothes at all the Garage sales you visit.

Your area must be really great then, because for me all game finds are gone by 11AM for garage sales, and gone by 7AM or so at flea markets.

Then again, vendors are able to set up shop REALLY early around here, and I've been to garage sales as soon as 5:30.

Maybe it's a regional thing? When do you usually go?

In any case, you have to admit that you have a much better chance of finding something good if you start bright and early.

I can't speak for anon, but where I live, the flea markets don't open until 6 AM. Even so, I've never been able to find anything worthwhile after 9 or 10 in the morning. The pickers move in and get the lion's share very quickly, and that's certainly not a regional occurrence.

That's not what I meant. I meant that getting up early isn't some kind of panacea that magically ensures you get deals, and that it doesn't matter whether or not you're there at 5:30 AM when you get unlucky. Being there early won't save you from the scalpers.

That being said, people tend to lazily roll in to the flea market all the way up till noon here. Doesn't matter since I'm there at 6AM on the dot, but it does mean I've got to stay longer than I'd like a lot of times.

It's so hard to hunt games like that in quebec, most flea market are closing or almost abandonned and yard sales only happen 2 weekend per year... I have to find different way to get my retro stuff, but hopefully we have thrift store and "goodwill" alike, in which I have contacts that call me when they find vidya!

How the hell do I organize trips to garage sales?

I find ones listed on Craigslist, but then I see ones that haven't been listed and I end up spending a lot of time back tracking

How do I prevent this?

Also, what ones are better for video games? Listed or non?

Guy cut me a deal and let me have 'em all for $50. I ran into my gf later and she begged me to let her borrow the Tales game and Dark Cloud 2, so I haven't gotten to play either of those. I think Dark Cloud 2 is pretty valuable, isn't it?

My only retro scores were a black label FFVII, Tomb Raider III, and the shitty WRPG Monkey Hero. $20 for those three.

I'm new to the whole collectan thing, but it seems like a good idea if you don't want to pay too much money for stuff and you don't have some oblivious soccer mom at a tag sale to buy games from. For example the other day I ended up buying this for $125

Not a steal, but not an awful deal either. But if I sold everything but Startropics and one NES, i'd only be out $15 or so.

Yesterday I bought pic related off my sister for €45 (~$60), I wanted to give her a fair price.
The GBC has some minor screen damage, but still the original battery lid.

And a question, a good friend of mine, who is not a collector, but always was very careful with his stuff, has a mint original gameboy with 3 games (see picture), and I believe an original nintendo carrying case.
What would be a fair offer, if I manage to convince him to sell it?

Went out Saturday morning. 15 places over five hours and 100 miles. I came away with a ps2 controller for a dollar.

I live in an area infested with collectors and flea marketers. I'd wager I'm competing with at least a hundred people on any given weekend.

I'm seriously wondering if its even worth it at this point. It looks like everything in the area is in the hands of collectors and flea markets now. I even work at a retro game store and rarely see anything anymore.

Trading with other collectors is also one way to get games you want but can't find elsewhere.

If i sell something on ebay I usually list it for less than the cheapest current listing.

I posted yesterday, but there is a 3-4 city block long flea market here jam packed with vendors and I found nothing older than PS1 games. Also found no Nintendo titles whatsoever (Most were garbage PS2 sports games and Xbox games. The few PS1 games weren't really great either)

I just got an N64 with expansion pack, 2 N64 controllers with tight joysticks, and a Genesis with about 10 games for ~50 bucks. My best find in awhile, things have been pretty dry for stuff like that lately.

There are now 5 different dealers at my local flea market that exclusively sell retro games. It's a pretty small flea market too. Guess I know where all the good stuff is going.

I swear my fucking local thrift stores/goodwills are up to something. I see consoles all the time. PS1/PS2/N64/GC/etc but never ANY fucking games. The only games I ever see are shovelware NES shit. Yeah yeah I know just because someone donates a console doesn't mean they got games but this shit has been going on for years.

The only place you can find retro games here are at thrift stores and they are overpriced as fuck. Ah the joys of a living in a shit hole. BGH, you are one lucky game collector.

Snagged a game gear and 6 games (although 2 are copies of sonic 2, plus the sound seems to be fucked (is a game gear supposed to be barely audible?)), Jet Set Radio and a Dreamcast keyboard, a Saturn controller, and a couple of common NES games I was missing at a flea market this past Saturday for about $50. Then on the way back I saw a yard sale and snagged an N64 for $10 that seems to have been collecting dust for the past 10 years. Not a bad haul if I do say so myself.

There haven't been any clumped sales yet that I could get to. Not in my city anyway. That's why I was driving all over.

I'm unaware of flea markets in my area, and haven't hit up any garage sales yet, but here's what I got from good will this week: Platinum sliver gamecube with gameboy player, disc all hookups and controller for $.7.50 (was $15, color of the week :) ) another black gamecube, just the console (tested it works fine) for $3, sega genesis model 2 for $6,Sega dreamcast for $10, psone for $10 (not the best deal) and a gbc with pokemon red for $10.

SC5 is far and away the best.

SC1 is a hilarious ring-out jugglefest
SC2 is ruled by Step-G, limiting most character to only a handful of moves that are actually useful and creating a terribly defensive game
SC3 is a glitchy mess
SC4 is an improvement on all games before it but is overall slow and has terrible balance.

SC5 is better balanced than all of them, has a varied cast and more things to play with because of the meter. As a fighter, it stands as the best game.

Unless you're judging them by their single-player qualities. Then I guess SC5 is a weak entry, but the actual fighting is top-notch

In terms of Gameplay, 1 is not very good, but in terms of all round, (story, extras etc.) I'd say 1 is pretty great, I did spend a lot of time on it though.

the control stick, it is cheap and just pushed the dpad down around the edges, broke on mine. I just took the panel off and played it without it. The distance your fingers have to travel is the same. Big full stereo speakers are really nice and it powers the gameboy off D cell batteries that go in the back. Magnifier on it was good too and had a light I believe. Plus you can store two gameboy games in the back slot.

My grandparents gave it to me one christmas along with kirbys dreamland. I liked it. Better than the cheap magnifiers, I had one of those too, they used to sell at kb toys.

There seems to be a lot of hate about selling for profit. Well, I don't have a job right now, but I love game collecting. So today I at various pawn shops and thrift stores I got Animal Crossing for $2, Zelda (Gold Cartridge) for $9, Pokemon Stadium for $5, and Half Life, Half Life: Opposing Force, and Pod Racer (all PC) for $6. About $22 altogether, but I don't care for the PC games, already own Pokemon and Animal Crossing, and own a grey cartridge of Zelda. So since, I love collecting, but don't have a job, I threw it all on Craigslist for $40. Once it sells I'll put the $22 back in the bank and use the $18 to fund my hobby. No biggy.

OoT, Castlevania and goldeneye for $2 each and this amazingly well conditioned red gameboy with the only flaw being that some batteries were left inside and I had to clean it out a bit which was $20 with this F1 race game currently not in picture.

At garage sales if they don't have a bank or something to make change for you, it's advisable to have change ready. Just bring a few quarters in case you see 1 game you want for 50 cents or something.

Most of all, and probably most obvious of all, be polite. You can be assertive and I encourage you to always try and haggle, but don't be rude inc case you ever want to come back to see their stuff. Even if they are stupid asking for too much on one item, you never know when you'll walk in to find Earthbound for 20 bucks and they don't want to sell it to you because of how much of a dick you were before. I've made so many connections with people by being nice, they'll hold stuff for me and contact me when they get some good shit because they know how nice and fair I am with prices.

Even if I did wear stuff like that, I would never do so when i'm game hunting. If I see a guy with a NES belt buckle or a mario shirt I'm sure as hell not going to be giving him a discount if he asks me to lower my prices while selling at a flea market.

Same goes for buying. People wearing game related stuff are dead giveaways and when I see someone like that I generally pick up my pace since I know they're looking for games too.

There's nothing wrong with liking games and having something game related on you, but when you're trying to get deals it's a completely different story.

Doesn't matter that much at garage sales where most of the people are average joes with regular jobs just trying to offload some junk. You may occasionally get someone who gets offended by what you're doing.

Flea markets are different. They are a bazaar environment. People haggle and there's no corporate price policy.

Sellers are trying to turn a profit and will very quickly become agitated if they think you're going to wind up with money they think should be theirs. If they figure you're a reseller, you are no longer a normal customer but competition looking to take advantage of them instead.

Experienced sellers will read you and realize they can get you to pay more based on your interest and how you carry yourself, even without having to actually know what a game is worth. This goes for EVERYTHING, not just games.

I was asking for tips earlier and now I have returned from my first trip. I went to 6 garage sales, all of which turned out to be inconvenient because I live in the middle of no where.

1st Sale: Didn't plan on this one, just found it on my way to another one. Only had a couple of pc games and xbox manuals. Almost picked up Swat 2 because I loved 3 and 4.

2nd Sale: This had a confirmed Genesis and PlayStation, but I arrived a few minutes after "someone cleaned us out"

3rd Sale: Community of old white people, absolutely no vidya

4th and 5th: Both were 'community' sales with all the participants in one yard. No video games

6th: By this point I was a few gallons short and getting tired. I was only about 3 hours in with nothing to show for it, and I hadn't had any thing to eat. So I figured one last garage sale and then go to the flea market tomorrow. Walked up to the garage, no vidya of course. But on my way down, the woman asked her kids about their DS. The kid went inside and came out with this 3DS and asked for $30 for it. I finally realized my beginner's luck was coming to a head before the mom said to hold on and that she was "checking ebay". My heart sank, but they parted with it for $45 (with the charger, Mario Kart 7, and it has some mario kart case on it). He also had an SP with ULTIMATE SPIDER MAN. The battery is out and no charger, but I picked it up for $8.

Did I do good for my first time? I'm going to go to the flea market tomorrow.

Seriously huh? What about the psx version of Chrono Trigger cause I see that on PSN as well and I feel like buying that.

Sadly there's not that many games on PSN to begin with, and I'm probably going to end up buying physical copies just in case/save space on my ps3.
