FF1-5 are just generic 'evil' bosses. The fact that 5's is an evil tree is telling of their running out of steam.
FF6 is only good if you don't know Kefka's actually the main villain and not Gestahl until the twist, but like Aeris death, everybody knows and nobody cares.
FF7 Sephiroth is an okay villain but Jenova is a great one.
FF8 I don't get.
FF9 I never even finished.
FF10 Yu Yevon and Sin/Jecht are at least story satisfying.
