Hey /vr/, I'm interested in a genre of games that went completely extinct. I'm taking about arcade top-down maze games. I'm interested in exploring the

I don't mean JUST Pac-Man clones, I will be more than happy with other games with a similar vibe like Gauntlet or Tower of Druaga. Any top-down or isometric game where focus is on running/exploring mazes will do.

I know a handful of such games - the original Pac Man games, some clones like Jawbreaker, KC Munchkin and KC's Crazy Chase, action games like Gauntlet, id Software Catacomb series, Final Odyseey: Theseus vs Minotaur...

I'm assuming I'm missing a ton of similar games that are worth playing, though. Help?

Well damn, I need to proofread my posts more often. I mean that I'm interested in different ways that designers made these games unique - the different mechanics and gimmicks they had that made the different from the competition.

Best Pac-Man clone.

Definitely check out Devilworld on NES. It’s the only dot-collecting-maze game I know that isn’t JUST a pac clone.

I use to play this as a kid.
Not exactly top down, but the levels are kind of neat.

Not sure how to put it into words. Might try it out though, OP.

Solstice (NES) and Equinox (SNES) are fun.

Huh, that's cool. It's interesting to see that people make Pac-Man style games as far as almost the 21st century... which is especially funny when you consider that all modern Pac-Man games are just 3D platformers.

But thank you, this kind of evolution of the genre is exactly what I'm looking for.

Oh, yeah! RIght, I totally forgot but I should probably check out those isometric action-adventure games like Knight Lore, Batman and Head Over Heels. Thanks for reminding me of those!

Yeah, Head Over Heels was cool
Also if you actually read the story, the plot was completely insane. The animals are galactic police or something?
