I've been meaning to buy one of those chink clone mega everdrives (or everdrive MDs, whatever they're called now) from aliexpress. However, I'm concerned about the quality because I've never bought a clone from them before. I've seen a lot of the cheap repro carts from china and heard about how they have really thick PCBs that might end up damaging/flattening the cartridge slot. I'm curious if this holds true of chinkshit everdrives as well.

Aliexpress hasn't held the same mystique for me since my Chinese friend let me order stuff from Taobao and ship it to her over the summer, then she brought it back to the states. In terms of /vr/ they have 100x the selection, some real weird shit that you've never even think of, and it's all DIRT cheap. Like games with boxes and manuals are half the price of loose carts on Aliexpress. It was truly amazing. Unfortunately they're far more proactive about international copyright laws so if you try to browse from a US IP, it hides everything potentially copyright protected. You need a Chinese IP or an account created from a Chinese IP.

That's basically what the MGD2 AES cart is. Although flash wasn't common or cheap when it was made so it uses DRAM+SRAM. SDd didn't exist so you used floppies or a cable to a PC. Today that'd be retarded because an SD that holds every AES game ever made costs fuck all. They don't even make them that small. The other problem is that not all AES carts are just the standard AES bits and ROMs. You'd only be able to play half the library or so without adding additional parts that have to be reproduced or butchered from originals. That's been done but not commercially on any sort of scale that I'm aware of. You'd have to be a complete fool to release a flash cart that didn't have 100% compatibility today.

SD2SNES is a meme anyway. It makes more sense to just get the regular SED and buy carts of the handful of incompatible games you want. Especially since you'll have to do this anyway as SD2SNES has incompatibilities with a number of games.

What I personally did was buy a regular ED and jap versions of games like Yoshi's Island and Starfox for dirt cheap. I assume things haven't changed much, but american SNES stuff was way overpriced and the jap games were going for pennies.

I imagine it depends on the system. For instance, I know a lot of Genesis games have both the American and Japanese version of the game on the cart and it just selects the version depending on what console it detects. So take a copy of Streets of Rage 3 USA and plug it into a jap megadrive, and it boots up as Bare Knuckle 3. And you can do a little entry-level soldering on the side of the PCB to change region.

I have something Also from China called the Game Phillip 88. Its another NOAC famiclone with a cartridge port, and has PS1-esque controller and one Light Gun. Got bored of it about a year ago. I wonder why exatcly most NES, Master system and SNES clones these days are in one way or another the system on a chip. I know that into the mid 1990s there were still a fair amount of console hardware clones that were more than that; they were full circuit boards that had not only a CPU but also actual other chips that mimicked the graphics and sounds of said console, be it NES, Atari 2600, Game Boy, Master System, Oddysey 2, Intellivsion, SG-1000, or Genesis.

With snes flashcart yes because usa carts are larger/different shaped than the jap/eur ones, jap/eur ones will fit usa snes no problem. Also the famicom/60-pin flashcart too.

Otherwise theres no problems, but playing import games can be hit or miss and is more complicated topic(varies from system to system and in some cases from game to game).
