How does /vr/ feel about MUGEN games? After all, the engine was made in 1999.

Still better than ROM hacks will ever be.

It was cool at first...until you realize that most characters are OP and it cant be used for balanced fighting game purposes.

It's good for a laugh or two like Ronald McDonald and Colonel Sanders duking it out. But outside of that, its meh.

Then why put F1 in it?
I think you guys truly haven't dug through all the sites to get where mine's at. It's pretty balanced outside of Rare Akuma and one of the Psycho Shredders. I like playing the SHMUP characters like the ThunderForce ship (Styx) cause it's OP when I use it, but still dies in 3 hits. It doesn't help that the site that hosted a lot of the Japanese ones, freett.com, shut down 2 years ago. It was similar to GeoCities, but no one noticed the shutdown or cared to archive it.

Yes they are. But crippling delay of online is not some magical pill. Online makes them worse.

>> No.5128816

I made a Super Turbo Akuma for Mugen a few years ago, and it was one hall of an experience. Although that might have been because I went into it with an explicit goal of converting everything as accurately as possible, as I felt the tools and resources available now (hitbox scripts, MAME debugger, general knowledge base among players, etc.) were good enough for full accuracy. But it ended up feeling like I was fighting the engine most of the time. So much stuff in the source game is based on lookup tables, which you can't really do in Mugen, so I just had to have lots of redundant variable setting routines in every state. Even stuff like getting reversals to work properly required doing things differently than how the engine and Kung Fu Man seem to tell you they should be done.

(Really). It's supposed to be a take on MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). They wanted the acronym to read MUGEN ("infinite" in japanese).

Also, I'm pretty sure you know this, but originally MUGEN was supposed to be a shooting game engine.

This is the only way my friend and I play it. ~1300 characters from every conceivable source, and we just do 4v4 Turns with full Randomselect. It's completely unbalanced and stupid, but that's exactly why it's fun. Getting outclassed and losing over some ridiculous bullshit is just part of the experience. You don't even mind it, since the matches are quick, it's always entertaining, and you might be the one who gets something OP next round. We only break MUGEN out when we're shitfaced, and it never fails to amuse for a few hours.

As someone who lurked through the community for almost 10 years i was a regular at Mugen Fighers Guild and Infantry
FORGET IT, its full limp dicked egocentric and now SJW weirdos who keeps copying an portuguese creator who left the scene years ago

Elecbyte said fuck it to the engine itself after years of bitching, its still stuck on 1.1 alpha and prone to bugs, the "sprite art" nowadays is nothing but a bunch of assholes trying to imitate the CvS style but failing at shading proportions(characters with orange, pink or lifeless skin shading), the tools for it are a clusterfucks of broken proportions that can even break the damn character and mugen itself, and if you criticize or give a good feedback about it, they simply ban you for "toxic behaviour".

and everything is being led by the Spaniard, brazillian and canadian combination of what i said above.

The Last Good community was Club Syndicate, but the Community drama tore the community apart and the general interest in Mugen for everyone there.

The CvS Sprites were simple conversions(chun-li, geese) and redraws from the originals(Terry, Ryu, akuma, king, mai), and all of them kept it simple.

i was crazy about MUGEN back in the late 90s. The idea of adding characters and levels from any game amazed me. This was before Capcom VS SNK, i had a psx back then...i got CVS Pro for it later, but that was well after MUGEN.Then i just lost interest and dropped it. Lately tho i'm back to it full force (It started with finding out about "Hyper Dragonball Z") i've been playing mugen and openBOR frequently ever since. Some of my favorites: "Bootleg Wars" / "TMNT TF MUGEN" / "Famicom Fighters" / "Kart Fighter Remake" / "Battle stormer classics" / "Pocket Dimensional Clash" / "Card Sagas Wars" / "Mega Man Robot Master Mayhem" / "Steel Warriors" / "Avengers vs X-Men" / "Saint seiya ultimate cosmo" / "X-Men Second Coming" / "Rorouni Kenshin Soul & Sword" / ScruffyDragon's "DC VS Marvel" / "Super Marvel vs. Capcom: Eternity of Heroes"

for a minute i though it was CvS but its a nice trick

nice anon, and i don't blame you for hating the faux pots shit, mainly after they decided to mix with SF4 shenanigans.

Can't i just download a mega pack like in OPs picture? I have to assemble it myself? I tried once years ago. Resounding failure
