One of the most popular and highest selling fighting game ports of all time (vanilla sold 6.3 mil copies alone) and I have no idea how arcade accurate the games are. No online resources or dumb YouTube videos breaking down hitbox changes or frame rate adjustments. Not for any of the other two SF2 games on the SNES or any of the other 16-bit console ports.

Anyone know the gist of what they changed beyond surface level stuff like graphics and sound?

I'm interested in this too.
Also I don't like the SNES BGM sampling.

To this day I can't decide if I like the SNES SF2 soundtrack or the Genesis version more.

nice thread OP

i have to state though that i found the genesis version better simply through the 6 button arrangement of the megadrive pad (yes shoulder buttons are the norm these days) but for fighting games i still prefer the more arcade style 6 button layout

The sprites are all smaller (hence the letterboxing) and there are a ton of missing frames because the arcade runs at 60fps which the SNES couldn't handle but I don't have a breakdown of which frames were removed anymore.

I discovered SFII and 3rd Strike years after either had been new and 3rd Strike is so much more enjoyable to me. Why is it completely ignored by Street Fighter fans? Even if you don't care about art style or sprite animation or music, parrying absolutely added depth. Did it all come down to people sore that they couldn't play as their SFII mains?

Are you talking about SFIII in general or TS?

SF 3 is absolutely not ignored by actual street fighter fans, and as far as I can tell much more popular among sf/fighting game fans. The only people that ignore or have forgotten sf3 are the casual nostalgia based street fighter fans. I think initially there was a bit of backlash for most of the sf2 character being cut out, but I honestly think that was one of the best things about it.

Guy who was extremely butthurt over SF2 guys not being in 3 here. It eventually became my next favorite SF game behind Alpha 2. Awesome game.

The SNES OST is one of the most overrated soundtracks I can think of. The only good remixes are the title screen and Blanka's theme.

Not very.

Capcom were really bad at doing music on the SNES. Especially any rock music or anything with real instruments like guitars. Their guitars especially sound GODawful.

>The sprites are all smaller (hence the letterboxing)
The entire resolution was smaller, not just the sprites. So backgrounds are reduced also. The letterboxing is because the vertical resolution is lower than 240, it's around 192.
>the arcade runs at 60fps which the SNES couldn't handle
Wot. Nearly all SNES games run at 60fps, including streetfighter 2 and all its other versions.

3rd Strike is overrated.

Yikes.

Agreed. Alpha 3 is a better game. Guard crush is the best mechanic in a Street Fighter game and every game should have it. Also air blocking should have remained standard.

SF3 was the first to run at 60fps. SF2 ran at 30.
