Let's have a retro Megaten thread (Shin Megami Tensei and such).

I'm playing SMTII for the Snes, I've just got to Roppongi but I'm completely out of magnetite. Without any all my demons take damage with every step I take.

Is there a way to get more magnetite?

>> No.5110469

>>5110391
You got to put away your demons and grind solo for magnetite.

>> No.5111112

Magnetite is such a retarded mechanic, i never understood what can possibly be fun about it. What were they thinking?

In soul hackers you get so much mag it doesn't even become an n issue later, so why even have it?

Any idea how I can get the megnetite? I fight demons but only get money and exp. When I talk to them they always give items or money and no magnetite.

>> No.5111240

>>5111197
I started dicking around on this the other day and I'm sure a 'High pixie' gave me magnetite. Perhaps you only get it from fairy-type demons?

I'm pretty far in the game and always have loads of Magnetite, but my demons usually die quick so that's probably why.

>>5110391
The only enemies that give MAG when defeated are Dark-aligned enemies.

>> No.5111378

Just walk around talking to demons you have know to build up MAG. They're usually good for some.

Just make sure they're alive.

Magnetite is fine in SMT1 and II. It just adds a little more depth to summoning demons and resource management fits in with the post-apocalyptic setting. It's not like you'll run out often or anything either if you keep am eye on it.

Stop killing 'em all. You need to talk to them and get them to give you presents. Magnetite is among them.

TALK to some demons that are also in your party and ask for more MAG, you bunch of super dorks
>>5111112
Magnetite is literally human soul mass that demons use to hold their bodies together, it's there so that you can't just kill your way through the multiverse without consequence, you have to TALK

>> No.5112769

>>5112676
You don't have to grind in SMT, you have to solve each encounter formation in an area and then solve the maze. The Maze is there so that if you explore, you don't end up needing to grind by the end.

This is of course only true if you know when to TALK instead of killing everything all the time.

>> No.5114957

Thanks guys, I'll try talking to demons.

I've completely fucked myself by spending all my money on armour for my heroine. I don't have enough to summon a single demon now and I don't have any megnetite even if I did.

i just got to the part with the Watchtower only to discover that I need 10 points in intelligence to advance. A stat I have been completely ignoring. At this point it's taking forever to level up. I might just drop it here because this is bullshit.

Not really. They're a bit too simple and not really as interesting as the console games really.
>>5115281
Summonimg demons in SMTI and even SMTII to a degree is near useless outside of boss battles. Demons are too frail and too weak to ever be seriously helpful in dungeons. In the beginning when you have three human party members they are unecessary at all really.

Brutal. Sorry then anon, that genuinely sucks. MTI, right? Maybe see if there is some way around it. I'm not too familar with that game so I'm sure if there is, sorry.

If it's SMTII then maybe I need to start improving intelligence. Why exactly do you need it?

>> No.5115495

Because the game puts a road block in your way an says "You don't have enough intelligence to pass.". I looked it up and apparently it does the same for magic too.
You just need 10 in each. Still it's really annoying to find out this late in the game.

>> No.5115513

Thanks I'll look out for that.

You might just have to grind. It's a shame you can't use the turbo button since you're not using an emulator.

Intelligence for the MC slightly increases your evasion, and significantly increases your success at negoations with talking to demons.

Although it's not a primary stat for Aleph, it's not a dump stat either. I'd put 10 points base into it (as with every other stat except MAG) and let equipment/gems/incenses take care of the rest. If you're building Aleph to be a smooth talker, you can pump int more while sacrificing a bit of stamina. Use Aleph to fast talk demons out of battles/for items and be able to dodge stuff in case things go sour

Different kinds of Bodyconians reward you with lots of magnetite earlier on. Also consider the strength of summoned demons as some earlier beefy boys like Cerberos who will join you long before you can fuse or recruit someone that strong. They will munch through more mag than the rest of your party combined.

In SMTII you can kinda cheese the INT roadblock if you're quick about it. The drinks at the bar that give you temporary stat boosts count towards those stat requirements. That's what I did and I made it through the game.

Weird question but is estoma bugged in SMTI? I'm playing using typical Aeon Genesis English patch as well as the Orden fix patch and am curious if this normal. When I use estoma it lasts until I teleport to a new area. I'll have my demon use estoma, and be able to walk around a dungeon without the spell expiring despite multiple moon cycles passing. When I use Mapper it works normally, it will expire after a regular cycle, so I'm wondering if this is a bug or is normal. I have never heard of this and thought it was like the other games where it lasts for a cycle.

Anyway this does make playing the game a lot more enjoyable though. Walking around entire dungeons with literally no enemy encounters feels almost surreal with how rampant they were.
>>5118352
>Different kinds of Bodyconians
There's only one Bodyconian enemy in the game though.
>>5118370
He's talking about the Digital Devil Story trilogy of novels, they were what the series was based on.

Is it just the MC that needs those stats? Or the heroine as well?

>> No.5120094

For SMT2, Hiroko has a bit more flexibility with her build. She can get some good equipment that benefits from having good STR, so you can build her up like that if you choose. She also gets a variety of magic as well, and having a higher INT and MAG gets you some of the spells a couple levels earlier than normal, iirc.

By general rule of thumb, I tend to go higher speed if I'm going a more offense build so I can try to freeze or shock enemies for free hits, or lower speed to use her heals at near the end of each around

If you're going a STR build I would try to pump a few points into luck and agility if possible, as the last few bosses have crazy high evade rates and need a fair amount of accuracy to knock em down.

>>5120094
There's no reason not to have MAG focused with her though when Aleph needs a STR build. Having Hiroko be your source of physical attacksis redundant when Aleph hasno other choice but to do that.

>> No.5121117

>>5120408
Her magic damage falls off after a bit, and most spells are inexpensive in terms of costing MP. Having a secondary attacker in Hiroko can help clear out fights much quicker, and in terms of bosses, gives you a much higher chance of success.
