My very first video game was Dune 2. I recently reinstalled it and still find it fun to play, even though it lacs some of the features we take for granted in modern RTS (inb4 multiple unit selection, in Starcraft, supposedly a pinnacle of RTS, you had arbitrary cap of 12 units and it was considered a feature).

Like most Westwood games from that period, it has great pixel art and distinct music and something, I cannot quite put my finger on, that reults in very wholesome artistic experience. I also appreciate little touches, like mentats following mouse cursor with their eyes, something I only noticed lately.

What was your first video game, anon?

I'm amazed how much of it I can remember, given how young I was.

Like many console kids my age, SMB on NES. At first I didn't know you could jump so after running into the goomba and dying over and over I then attempted to wait out the timer to see if he would just go away.

"Kupiec", a Polish "multiplatform" trading game, originally for C-64, eventually also for Amiga and PC. It's a game about a merchant, travelling from city to city and buying low to sell high in other place (or the same one once you return), to earn a ransom for his loved one, kidnapped by pirates. Pretty fun game, comes with music so god-damn iconic I'm still humming it when phasing out.

First game was Hexen.
It's funny because the one biggest complaint I hear about this game (that the maps are too convoluted, players have no idea where to go, pulling switches seemingly does nothing) doesn't at all register with me.
Like, that complaint makes perfect sense, but I simply don't have any recollection of a time when I didn't know have the entire game memorized.

Probably either SMK64 or some shitty 90's Educational game, i was about 3 to 4 years of age and this was after the Gamecube came out (meaning my Family could actually afford 64 games because no one wanted them.

the first game I remember is pic related, I even recall going to a department store with my father to buy the damn console, but since I have pics of myself with a NES in a family album I'd say that SMW is not really my first game experience.
Unrelated but I also remember pissing on the console manual at that same age. Don't judge me.

Mine was Defender. They got a cocktail table one in the diner at the end of my road and I was hooked instantly. I'd ride my bike down there just to play it. Then in '84 we got our first computer and a couple years later an NES... My fate was sealed.
