Which Atari console should I get?

Also, what are some things I should look for when purchasing one?

There are a couple of 2600 4 switchers on facebook marketplace near me from 60 to 115 dollars.

A basic 4 switch is fine.

I prefer the original heavy six from Sunnyvale, but the black "Vader" 4 switch is also nice.

Huge rip off.

that's a bit much. they're not exactly crazy rare; i see em about every month or so at goodwill for like $15-20 on average.

Shit, I havent seen any around here for less. And thats usually with just a controller and power pack. The sellers usually mention the going eBay prices for them.

I havent even hit the game shops yet.

I did pick up a Genesis at a goodwill store for like $3.99 but I have yet to see an atari.

Maybe I should hold of...

I have a classic woodgrain 4 switch. It does the job, but it's pretty annoying having to reach around the back to change the difficulty switches. I'm tempted to get a six switcher just to make it less of hassle.

>4 switchers
>60 to 115 dollars
Jesus fuck. Is that just for the console alone? If it came with a good amount of games I could understand those prices but for just the console, you can do way way better.

No but one could compare it to the genesis

If they're charging that much for the atari, it would have to come with almost the same amount of games as dollars.

A basic 4 switch is fine. The value village by me has a vader atari, no hookups or controllers games or anything, and they want fucking $50 for it, untested.

This is the kind of shit I keep seeing on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. I am not paying $60 bucks for an untested 2600 without the hookups. People are fucking stupid.

I spent about $110 shipped on a heavy sixer from ebay but it came with the original box and joysticks, paddles, 25 games or so. Plus you have the guarantee it will all work. I wouldn't pay more than $20-25 for a 4 switch.

>>5105747
just pass on those listings and keep looking. a few weeks ago I picked up 2 2600s, og xbox, and a ps2 for $40 total

Go for the Jag. One of the best things about that console, besides from the innovative controller and sleek design, is that it has 64 bits of graphics. I mean, think about that. 64 bits. You do the math

Yes.

4 switch consoles are common as fuck and should be somewhere around $40-60 with like a dozen games and a controller or two. 6 switch consoles are less common and may be more expensive but they're not really any better in a technical sense, it's just really personal preference. People prefer having the difficulty switches in the front vs behind the ridge. 6 switch consoles have the controller ports on the back of the console while 4 switch consoles have it on the back of the ridge next to the difficulty switches.

I still have my atarii in the attic. Idk enough to get it out again. I took it down the other week just to take a photo and look at what I have. I didn't even test it. To be honest, I have no idea how the tv out plug works. It looks like a speaker wire, and I can't for the life of me remember how to connect it, and didn't even care enough to research.

you sure went through a lot of trouble taking a photo and making a forum post to make sure we know how little you care

I was hoping that someone would explain how to hook it up so that I would exert some effort again to test it and the full case full of games. I can't see why it wouldn't work as it has stayed dry, but 2 decades in an attic could have killed it.

It'd need one of these, and you may have one laying around. You stick the spade-type connectors or wires underneath the two screws and lock them down. Then just push the coax connector on to the coax port on the back of whatever TV. No idea if it'll work on a modern set worth a shit, that said.

I assume it uses a common RCA cable which transmits RF. That's what they should be using anyway.

Just screw it into the coaxial port on the back of a TV

I would hold off, that seems very expensive unless it comes with a bunch of games.

>> No.5107304

I recently purchased a 7800 with 4 2600 joysticks, two 7800 joysticks, two sets of paddles and 92 2600 games for $140. 7800 is backwards compatable as well so if you see that model for cheaper go for it!

this looks pretty cool. I found a gemini in the bottom of a box from an ebay lot from 10 years ago and looked it up. It's the "shit show" 2600 clone.

OP, you should not pay more than $30 for a 2600. and that's including some games, paddles, and joysticks. It was cloned more than the famicom. those prices are good only if they're a real heavy sixer made in california because muh american 70s made.

I don't think this will work, as I only have what looks like an old speaker plug as an output.
>>5107158
>I think you'll need one of these
This looks more specific to what I am looking for. For that price, I will have to find one on Ebay.

Thanks. I will see what I can do over the next few weeks with it. I have one of the cases with the clear plastic lid, and it is full of games that I picked up after the crash in 83, but before the NES. Games were cheap, and it was nonsense to not buy them all. I can tell you exactly where we got it, and how much the games were, but for a small amount in 1983-84, we got a full assortment of accessories and games.
