It's hardly perfect, it just has a god tier d-pad and the 6 face buttons which should have been the standard. But there's a lot of things missing to be perfect. But alas, no such thing as a perfect controller.

I wish someone would make a version of this controller with L2/R2 and dual analogue sticks under the d-pad/buttons ala playstation controllers. Then it'd be the perfect controller for both 2D and 3D games.

Really wish we'd see more more controllers with 6 face buttons, rather than only fighting pads.

the d-pad may be a bit big for that and the A button would probably have to be removed

>analogue triggers

The biggest meme of all time. Since they've been introduced, very few games actually make use of the analogue capabilities of triggers. And meanwhile, tons of games have been forced to map digital functionality to analogue triggers, which is shitty and annoying. I'd much rather have digital shoulder buttons, even today.

It's the Microsoft SideWinder game pad. It was released in 1996 and it came packaged with a demo disc containing several games, including Time Commando, Manic Marbles (which was never released), Gex, and if I recall correctly some truck racing game that I can't remember the name of. I played the shit out of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 on that thing.

Years later I lost it so I got the USB version, which changes the color scheme (instead of a black body with green/grey buttons it's a dark grey with black buttons), and removes that mode button (which was bound to a shitty macro system that I could never get working right).

Here's Bro Team Pill playing Time Commando.

I honestly prefer the 3-button Genesis controller over the 6-button. The size is perfect. If there was a controller at this size with more buttons I'd be happy

Okay, but need I remind you that the Saturn had its own analog controller that worked with NIGHTS, Sonic 3D blast, and a couple handfuls of other games.

This lacks the curve on the buttons that the Saturn controller has. It needs that curve. Also the sticks are too close together. Make it more similar to the Saturn circle pad or Dreamcast pad with two sticks but the same six face button layout and it would be better.

Nigga what are you on about. the Genesis pad was tight.

>> No.5103473

Not him but you're absolutely right, the 6 button layout doesn't at all feel like the controller was designed for it while 3 buttons feels much more natural on it.
>3 buttons
>thumb settles on a button
>6 buttons
> thumb settles between them
It's just slightly annoying to me. I'd at least ask for the top 3 buttons to be closer to the lower ones.
>>5103439
I wouldn't go as far as to call it shitty (especially with SEGA coming off if the Master System's pos) but only 3 buttons wasn't very forward thinking and the 6 button controller felt a bit slapped together in a hurry to meat fighting game demands. Also the D-Pad is far too mushy for my liking.

>6 face buttons which should have been the standard
Why? 6 is just too many, only useful for fighting games.

>> No.5103696

>>5103605
More than just that benefit from it. Streets Of Rage is a game that actually benefits from more than three buttons since in 3 it makes use of the other buttons for moves like the back attack and the strong knockdown move. Because Sega released a three button controller companies made games for the console around that idea. Had it had six at the start games would have obviously been made with that in mind. I don't think Super Metroid has any issue utilizing all of the SNES controllers buttons right? So why would it be different for Genesis? Also the original controller is actually no different from an NES controller in actuality. Look at them, they both got only four total buttons. This isn't to shit on Sega though since they at least put out a six button controller later on.

OP posted a Saturn controller, which has the six face buttons AND L and R. That's just completely unnecessary.
