Hey guys, boomer here! Which do you guys prefer, n64 or ps1? Also, what are the best games for each respective console?

N64 is a pretty bad console. But people who worship Nintendo are blind to anything that goes against their gods.

I just like the N64 because of the multiplayer games and some Nintendo games are great, like F-Zero and Wave Race.
Anyway, 5th gen sucks.

5th gen is far from sucking, you just have bad taste. And even though I hate the N64, I'm not gonna say theres no game worth playing on it, but it's only a handful.

Nah, I'm just not that young.
I still like some 5th gen stuff, I already mentioned some N64 stuff and I also like some Saturn and to a lesser degree PS1, but compared to 3rd and 4th gen, I don't go back to 5th gen nearly as often.

ps1, there is just so much there that was better than the n64. gex, spyro and crash, absolutley kill the kindergarden style games the n64 had for platforming, minus sm64. the only good platformers were sm64 and conker, but even then conkers humor is very 12 year old edgy. gexs humor is way better, as are the games. oot/mm, smash and golden eye are really the only games that the ps1 cant contest with, but then the n64 doesnt have half of the the classics ps1 had. ff7, tomb raider, mgs, saga frontier, brave fencer musashi, parasite eve, dino crisis, re1, armored core, need for speed, klonoa, tomba, legacy of kain blood omen, crash, spyro, gex, zoku gossun oyoyo (fuck you its a masterpiece), ff8, etc...

the only notable n64 games are the ones i already mentioned and maybe if you absolutely love collectathons then banjo kazooie. people talk about ogre battle being good, and it is. so might as well check that one out too, not much else worth

PS1 had the better overall library in terms of selection. N64 was anemic compared to the juggernaut that was the SNES. I’d even go as far as to say it was one of Nintendo’s worst consoles.

Depends on what you like. I'd say PS1 if you like RPG's more. N64 if you prefer platformers. Not to say the PS1 doesn't have great platformers, though. Only slight here is, N64 doesn't have many (if any) great RPG's. Unless you really like Quest 64 and Paper Mario.

PSX by a lot. I was a big NES and SNES fanboy and loved Nintendo but the N64 was a horrific disappointment with no 3rd party support, a departure from what made nintendo successful (good graphics and shitloads of games) and very ugly graphics (blurry textures look like ass).

I sold my N64 and saved up some more money and bought a modded PSX, best decision ever. So many games, so many different genres, tons of great 3rd party games, awesome soundtracks and mesmerizing FMV sequences to set the mood. If you didn't have a PSX at the time you missed out on the golden age of home console video gaming.

Nintendo dropped the ball and became total shitters. They made a good effort to bring back the magic with the criminally underrated gamecube but everything that came after that was a horrendous failure. If you are a fan of current day Nintendo, shoot yourself. Sony has gone to shit too though. Microsoft was never good.

I like the n64 more simply because nintendo's seccond party developers (hal, intelligent systems, rare*) are really good at making games.

With that said, I do think the ps1 has a larger quantity of good games thanks to its strong third party support. I just happen to like what is available on the n64 enough to prefer it

Please tell me what is 'true' about memes like 'boomers', 'zoomers', 'based', that one sauce word they like to throw around for god knows what reason or whatever the hell you kids are yelling about. In my day the only things that were actually considered memes was over 9000 and all your base (and even those became stale quickly).

If anything memes have become nothing more than an excuse to shitpost with the same words over and over again.

PS1. As a kid, I was really into rpgs, and I liked that ps1 games could be bigger and feature more impressive, depthy worlds overall.
Not that I have an issue with n64, but it's library, while having some strong titles, isn't as interesting to return to and explore.

>> No.5101228

PS1 easily. The best games for the N64 are legendary for sure, but those games are pretty much all it has. I imagine if you asked a bunch of N64 owners what their favorite games for the system were, you'd get the same answers very consistently. Meanwhile, the PS1 had a massive library of games that covered a wide variety of genres, and there are tons of hidden gems to go back and discover once you've already played the essential titles. I remember there being an "underrated N64 games" thread a few days ago that sort of underscored the issue: Aside from a few neat, overlooked games, the thread was pretty sparse.

Hey boomer, gen z brat here. Ps1 was the second console I ever had and the best thing in my life when I was a kid, so it holds a special place in my heart. When I was a kid my favorite genre was RPGs because they would let me "roam" the map fighting cool monsters. For psx I really like mega man legends 2 (action rpg), Nascar Rumble (racing), Crash Bandicoot (platform), Bloody Roar (3D fighting) and Legend of Legaia (classic jrpg). Apologize for such a list but it's really hard to pick just one for me. I know these are hardly the best games for psx but I enjoyed them a lot as child.

For n64.... I'm just getting started so... something cliche but Mario Tennis is really fun for me.

I never owned a 64, so PSX.

For the 64 I really enjoyed the Mario franchise. I feel they innovated a lot of amazing ideas/concepts with Mario. There are a boatload of really solid racing games too, way too many to mention. Sin and Punishment is the best railish shooter I've played. And the FPS games for the system are held in very high regard, but I'm really not a console FPS kinda guy.

The PSX... Tony Hawk series, Syphon Filter series, Gex series, Tenchu series, Pac World, too many fighting and racing games to mention, etc. I could talk about that library for days.

I feel really bad for those of you who are dead set on hating either console, especially since most only have that opinion because of a decision their mom/dad made in the mid 90's.

>> No.5101608

>>5099475
The N64 has some great games but I agree that its library pales in comparison to the PS1. To my mind the freaking controller is the worst part about the N64, what the hell were you thinking Nintendo?

>> No.5101623

>>5101608
At least they WERE thinking. How the fuck did Sony and Sega come to the conclusion that 3D focused gaming didn't need an analog stick at launch? Shame Nintendo never released a revised controller like their competitors though.

>> No.5101741

I have bias for the 64, but both are good. They have ups and down.
PSX
>quality library
>usually better ports than 64
>first to disk
>actually has memory space for sprite-based games
>coding isn't ass backwards
64
>less variety but quality titles
>doesn't require memory cards
>up to 4 controllers as opposed to 2
>analog controllers off the bat
>doesn't fuck up vectors in the graphics

Not too many 64 titles that are hidden gems
>Bomberman Heroes
>Chameleon Twist 1 (JPN) and 2
>Mischief Maker
>Tetrisphere
>Snowboard Kids 1 + 2
then classics
>Mario 64
>Zelda Ocarina of Time
>Zelda Majoras Mask
>Smash 64
>Mario Kart 64
>Mario Party 1-3 (2 and 3 are best)
>Mario Tennis
>Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2
>Pokemon Snap
>Banjo Kazooie and Tooie
>Yoshi's Story
>Duke Nukem 64
>Conker's Bad Fur Day
>Diddy Kong Racing
>Paper Mario
>Starfox 64
DK 64 is decisive, but I'd say worth a play
multiplats:

>Mortal Combat
>Gex (1 is ps1 only)

I think I was pretty clearly referring to the NPC meme

>>5100928
It's very true that the world is full of people who spend all their time on autopilot. Pretty much everyone spends some time on autopilot and on 4chan there are tons of people who think that their "neet" lifestyle is "living the dream". These are exactly the kind of people who instantly understand the "npc" meme and for whom it rings true

Even the "boomers vs zoomers" meme while less obvious is about the two frequently conflicting extremes of 4chan philosophy. "Everything new is bad" vs "everything new is good".

>> No.5101952
