Sega CD emulation woes.

Everytime I start up fusion emulator it freezes during the sonic animation. Popful Mail is the game I'm trying to play.

Any suggestions on how to help me trouble shoot?

I've emulated it with Retroarch and GensGS and never had any problems that weren't BIOS related.

>> No.509795

I had the same problem. The solution (for me at least) was deceptively simple: check "Perfect Sync" under the options menu. I think that's the only reason it's there.

You need a disc image, (Kega) Fusion, and BIOS files for all Sega systems. All easily acquired.

I recommend a Saturn-to-USB adapter, and playing with a Saturn pad. Fits the hand so well. Just know that at least for me, setting the controls with that adapter took about 20 attempts, if not more, because it kept binding one press to like 3 items.

Its also a pretty good version, certainly one of the better ones on record.

Unbelievable, I wasn't expecting much from this Sega CD Popful Mail game, but it ran flawlessly on my Asus notebook.

The game is awesome, I like the mechanics and all.

The voices are a little bit cheesy, but they're passable, I don't know what people keep talking about the voices being terrible, they add to the games comedic setting.

The voices can be turned off in the options but I don't recommend it.

Maybe the translation isn't as loyal to the Japanese version but whatevs I just wanna play a fun game right now, anyways I'm tired and I'm gonna play it later today, later /vr/ thanks for the game.

It's the same game, aside from different graphics (SCD has better sprites) and few changed animations (PCE version has longer intro) they play the same.

Some dialogues were heavily changed and parodied in translation but it really doesn't matter in this kind of game. VA is okay, Japanese version didn't have exactly stellar actors either.

Remember, this was a Working Designs title, meaning somewhat accurate lines for the protagonists and heavily rewritten (though occasionally funny) dialogue from the side characters. Honestly it was decent for the time with maybe only Snatcher besting it as an early 90s CD game with good voice acting/translation.

No, they aren't. Events seem to be the same but I'm ramming enemies like Ys in the PC Engine version right now. It's wonderful and I wish the Sega CD version kept it.

They're certainly getting there, though. Even the model 2s are rising in price, going for roughly $60-80 by themselves when they used to be about $20-30 a few years ago.

Popful Mail :
Debug Menu : At the Main menu, Select "Quit Game", then when it asks "Yes or No" press : Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right, Right, Right, A. You'll return to the main menu, go to the Utilities and a new "Test menu" will be available.

Can someone confirm that this code works?

I've been trying to pull it off but I figure it might be fake, yet all the websites HAVE the code.

Also, I found a Kega savestate editor at GameFaqs

I was bored and made this:

http://www.mediafire.com/?70w9tdcgnq5g7of

Thought I'd share it here in the off chance anyone actually wants it. It's designed for Fusion 3.64 but might still work for any version of said emulator that supports save states. (untested)

Good news, I tested it and it's fine.

You can't use the regular savestate, you have to use the gs0 to gs9 states.

Still, very helpful to those who want to have a certain item in a tight spot, you can even edit the items while playing the game and load the state on the fly.

There's one error in the shield item with Mail.

The parameters with the gold shield and silver one are switched but you can check the silver if you want the gold one, etc.

You can change the Vitality status and such.

I unlocked the chars right in the beginning.

All anime openings are obnoxious, no exceptions.
It's almost like they want to nauseate you, and then make you feel better with the show's actual content.
Actually, showtunes in general are like this. Ever wonder why no TV shows have vocal themes any more?
Anime would be a lot more accessible without obnoxious themes.
