Guy set up a zandronum server with MAP21 of Chillax (hard doom as well). He's offering 1k USD to anyone who completes it while he has the stream running.

Guess what, DOOM isn't about being like Serious Sam or Painkiller or any other "area" shooter filled with clusterfu.ck of sh.it all over the level. It's about solid, enjoyable shooting packed with amazingly well made levels. Brutal DOOM literally annihilates everything that's good about DOOM. The guy who makes the mod even remakes the original levels to the point where it looks like sh.it. But people these days just love games where you hold your left mouse button and that's it... DOOM is not like that at all.
Brutal DOOM is literally the worst way to play DOOM, and anyone who really played the game in the 90's will tell you the same, 90% of stuff added in the Brutal doom is useless and kills the gameplay.

That and some modders behind said mods, unlike Mark, play a better part in being involved in Doom modding by either sometimes doing amazing or interesting things or just being in multiple mods, either as the main directors or just some form of contribution.
You look at someone like Xaser, you'll start seeing his name in different gameplay mods and wads, most of which look different enough to make his backtrack more interesting.
You look at Mark and what you get is

it was an extra campaign in the BFG edition of doom 3.

the BFG edition is pretty fun on it's own overall but other than VR support & lost mission there's no real reason to get it if you already own doom 3. especially since it's cheaper to just buy the original doom 3 and install last man standing.

in hindsight i probably should've put RoE higher since the grabber was a better gravity gun than the HL2 one and you could pretty much beat the game using only that.

but i like that lost mission is pretty much pick up and play in addition to being more designed for the action aspects of the BFG edition.

The main thing BD did right in my opinion is feedback.
Every type of enemies react to the weapon they are being shot with and location shot at with a big variety of different animations,
so that every weapon feels much different from another, and each gives its own brand of violent satisfaction.

That's what BD was all about (at least for me) until about version 19 when Mark strayed offcourse and began adding extraneous shit like swinging shotgun bollocks. The only things of worth added post v18 were rolling and slumping-against-the-wall bodies and enemies reacting to kicks and explosions.

It would've been great if someone made a BD fork focused on that, and maybe providing a framework that ties enemy reactions to easy to use damagetypes (and not the clusterfuck of the original) and swaps the hitbox spawning to something made with ACS or ZScript that can be applied to monstertypes instead of having to be integrated separately into each individual monster, making it easier to "brutify" weapons and monsters.
PB tried to do something like that, but it's still uses a hitbox spawning clusterfuck.

When i first started playing Doom? Only two years ago, when i was literally sick of the games that were coming those days and all that sjw propaganda involved in it. So, I have to use Win 10 for now and an old Fall'17 version at that. I'm having trouble with Quake ports, Doom64EX, HL2 and almost all other shooters that use SDL - mouse either doesn't work at all or jumps around randomly.
I can't install any updates without completely reinstalling whole system.

that's what y-shearing looks like, since all that's really happening is that the software renderer just renders what you'd see when looking straight forward, then shifts around what part of it you see when you look up or down.

In my opinion industry took completely wrong lesson from Half-Life - that games can be cinematic - while Half-life made effort to immerse player into the events without breaking the flow with cutscenes.
The "immersion" and "not breaking the flow" part flew completely over their heads.
Half-Life also often relied on the oldschool way of making level "a place where things going on" instead of "rsequence of events strung together with corridors", which other devs missed as well.

There's way less color variety and lighting variety in Doom64. Everything is a sort of brown-grey. It's meant to be more "realistic". Plus, the new sprites are mostly hideous. The Doom 64 Caco sucks, also so does the Mancubode and Zombies.
Most everything else ranges from acceptable to quite good.

Pre-rendered 3D for sprites can look great if you don't let the player look at the models too close.
Like for instance Witchaven is unforgivably fucking ugly, but looking at games like Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Starcraft, Fallout, etc, games where you see most things from a relatively distant perspective, it all works quite well, for the most part.

Looking at an FPS example, Strife uses pre-rendered 3D models for some things, but pretty much all of them are mechanical, like the weapons and the robot enemies. Synthetic is suitable here. Generally this all looks fine.
It mixes this with gorgeously drawn, animated, and colored sprites with expert light and shadow. If you go through the Strife1.wad and just look at the individual frames of animation on the non-CGI graphics, you will see that they are almost all VERY smooth, consistent and clean, with no color bleeding, artifacts or shortcuts.

doom.exe and doom2.exe are exactly (or near exactly) the same. Same functions can be utilized, but only for version of doom.exe after doom 2 was released or some such. I think 1.666 on? I don't remember the turning point.
So if you create a new .deh file under ultimate doom 1.9 you get access to all of doom 2's states, functions, and sounds.
You could add all of Doom 2's monsters, or use the states to make all new monsters, and put them into Doom 1, but you'd need to change the thing ID's and create or edit maps to use them.

While the Doom 1 levels in PSX Doom were all based around the "Console Doom" set that iD had worked out, cutting down level size and simplifying some geometry, to make sure the levels would run better on consoles like the Jaguar and 32X (then later the GBA), they did not do this for the Doom 2 levels (at least until the GBA), and you notice the difference in performance, even if it's never terrible.

Meanwhile, Doom 64 was tailor made for the Nintendo 64, it was a new game with new levels, built specifically on that console, no conversions or adaptions, leading to them working inherently with the performance of the console in mind.

they are defined on a per-actor basis
so if a wad changes sprites of something with brightmaps, they may look wonky
