Do you leave your cartridges unprotected or in a protective sleeve, /vr/?

>> No.5094807

I just use the covers that slide over the bottom of the cartridge

I just leave my everdrive in the console at all times

I use the regular ones that came with nes. If they don't have covers, I just don't cover them.

>> No.5094850

I just put them in the boxes they came in?

There are sites out there which sell repro sleeves if you're interested.

We rawdog that shit around here.
Just leaving them on a shelf until I want to play them has worked for me for the last 19 years I've been alive. If the cart doesn't work, just take it apart real fast and clean the pins with an eraser.

Protected of course, however i only own 2 Nes multicarts and i cant justify buying a 10 pack for them.

I like buying custom cases for them myself, they're cheap and plentiful online or you can make them yourself if they don't exist.

N64 and Sueper Famicom games lack the spine label, i printed some to know identify them.

>> No.5097449

I put my high value carts and all my cardboard boxed games in those. All my manuals for those are bagged too.

Leaving a cart in your console is a great way to flatten out the pins and cause faulty connections over time.

People always recommend these N64 end labels, but they look so goddamn tacky. I really wish there were a better solution for N64 cart storage.

theres a few different versions on Ebay for 20 shipped, but im a cheap bastard so i made my own.

WHen i see ones that i actually like ill buy a full set.

>>5097634
From what I've seen, the buyable ones aren't much/any better than your homemade ones. It will always just look like a sticker tacked on where it doesn't actually belong

I'm thinking the best way to store them is on a shelf, standing up, and at an angle (like cars in a dealer's lot) so that you can see just enough of the label to know what it is without having to flip through.

This is objectively false. I've had a game in my NES pretty much non-stop for the past 29 years and it still works just fine.

I love those VCR cases so much. The best part is that they come with those little tabs to hold your manuals too.

I'll second this, left mario 1 in my childhood console for 15 years and it works fine. I think it kept it cleaner because any other console is finicky as hell to get clean and working, this one boots up on the first try without fail.

pretty sure there's official nintendo documentation that says to keep a gameboy cartridge in a gameboy when in storage

i usually keep them in boxes cause im not a sperg that needs that shit on display and becuase It keeps dust and light off the carts. all my consoles are in my closet hooked up to a little crt. i close the door to keep most dust from building up, but i also clean my consoles from time to time to keep them in tip top shape.

They're just called custom cases. You can get them from a variety of online stores, those being customgamecases.com, gamecaseking.com, and retrogamecases.com. The first is the original as the shop is maintained by the guy who's also in charge of The Cover Project, which is dedicated to cataloging all game covers and their variants, plus all the designs you see for these custom cases on other sites are made by the same guy. I've heard bad things about Game Case King despite having a similar price point, mostly unfulfilled orders and radio silence. Retro Game Cases charges double the price for the same cases, but they're actually useful if you want to get plastic protectors (like in the OP), labels, stickers, etc., they're a more practical all around shop.

CGC also makes rad DS-style boxes for GB/GBC/GBA games that match perfectly with the DS and 3DS boxes. They also have the original Genesis / Mega Drive plastic boxes mold, so all their boxes are made from the same dimensions. IIRC, they're also in the process of making Game Gear cases. I've never had an issue with them and their customer support is great, they even manage bulk orders if you want 50+ boxes at a time.
