Why is this game so damn easy?

>> No.5073293

Because it has good controls, is very responsive, and due to having a lot of RPG elements, ends up being quite easy to play through.

>> No.5073294

Because Igarashi couldn't even rip off Metroid properly. The game has no focus, the """""""RPG"""""""" elements are tacked on and combat is trivialized. They wasted fantastic spritework and soundtrack on a mediocre videogame.

Because it was based on Super Metroid.

>> No.5073382

Because they threw everything and the kitchen sink into it and completely forgot to balance the game.
The fact that your bare hands are one of the more effective weapons in the game should tell you enough.

Because it allowed you to level up to insane levels of power.

Try running through the game as fast as you can and avoiding leveling up or using powerful weapons and you can make a challenge of it.

>> No.5073535

There wasn't really a Metroidvania formula yet so they put rudimentary stat progression into the game and called it a day, leaving many many ways to exploit it

Or just play with the luck code, it sets you back pretty far stat-wise at the beginning.

I would like a game that was similar but didn't have any leveling. Like metroid you you should just get new abilities. Different weapons you find would differentiated by their attack style, elements, or just extra abilities they bestow. No grinding.

>> No.5076439

What’s worse is all the elemental weapons that are never really needed.

Why even bother including them?

because not only do you get hp upgrades from bosses and stat improvements from equipment, you also get permanent stats from leveling up. its just overkill.

and while you can do a run with no equipment and things like a permanent level 1 save/hack, the level design still makes it rather easy.

When I was 13, I loved it. The difficulty was just right for my ADHD. Exploration even felt kinda challenging. I find the game insufferable nowadays because of how insultingly easy it is, but back in the days I fucking loved it and I would've loved it much less if it were more challenging, I'm sure.
People uncritical of their nostalgia still love it, and that's just how things are.
Forget about it. DMC or Dark Souls prove that there directors willing to make challenging games and there are large audiences for those game. All is right, so fuck SotN.

All post-sotn Vanias immediately make sense when you play them on higher difficulties. Hard mode in LoI makes every item invaluable and combat ridiculously strategic, and also shows that the game is actually VERY tight. Same goes for Hard Modes in the GBA games. For example, PoR on Hard is a fucking blast and makes a lot of sense. (I'm talking about starting with a fresh character, of course.) Enemies actually have entire movesets, and very well made too, that you don't see because on Normal you just kill them in one hit.

Its easy if you grind but the jump from the regular castle to reverse castle can be a decent challenge if you dont farm levels. Also try a bare fist run.

So you can continue making the game in your own home. It's 2018 almost 2019. If you wanted to add extra story and maps to Halo on your own you could so effortlessly within a year.

>if you grind but the jump from the regular castle to reverse castle can be a decent challenge if you dont farm levels
I hacked my save to tremendously decrease my stats so that enemies owuld at least have a chance to kill me in 1-2 hits if they hit, but it didn't change shit. So no, it's not true. The game is far too easy on the most basic level. It would take meticulous rebalancing of every enemy to make combat challenging and it still wouldn't help with the brain-dead platforming.

Thats a happy accident and it leads to you finding a ton of cheese in each game, OoE boss fights can take something insane like 8 to 10 minutes and it's boring the whole time, if this was actually designed then the developers are actual brainlets. Even still you don't use most of everything, just more than usual

>>5073294
They didn't understand level design, 99% of studios that attempt to make a metroid clones don't understand it.
So with SOTN you end up with a bunch of corridors/giant empty rooms pasted together without enough thought of the overall map and how it's meant to link together.
Amazing soundtrack though hey? Like seriously it's the best thing about the game. Michiru Yamane knows what she's doing.

The DSvanias are pretty challenging. Has nothing to do with "muh RPG". Julius mode on DoS and Richter mode on PoR is harder than any Classicvania.
