I know a ton of people who prefer ordinary sprite art as opposed to 3D rendered, whether it's pre-rendered or in real time but I think the visuals in the DKC games are still alright. I always thought the controls and the music were the more memorable parts about the games instead of the visuals though.

Try to imagine that in 1995 we were not so sensitive to low resolutions, and that CRTs made the game look better than it does on more modern screens. Try also to put yourself in the place of someone who appreciates play-doh-like graphics, even if the style doesn't happen to please you. I don't think the mental exercise should be too taxing.
