I play GG 1 a lot - assuming the level of text is similar, you should be good anon. Lots of it is just setdressing, and if you need help with objectives (most are intuitive) there's always guides.
Play it with a virtua stick if you have one, it makes you feel fucking cool.

mario 64 is polished so much you can't really use it as the standard. there are very few platformers with controls as good as it and although the textures and models weren't great the level design was good and draw distances were not an issue for very much. the transition to 3d was a lot more rough for others.
