What fighting game has the best music?

Officially confirmed Top 5 series when it comes down to music:

1. KoF (KoF '96, '99, 2000, XI, and XIV in particular).
2. Guilty Gear (X, Korean Reload and Xrd/Revelator in particular).
3. Soul Edge/Calibur (Soul Edge, Soul Calibur, Soul Calibur II, and Soul Calibur III in particular).
4. Street Fighter (Zero 3, III 3-rd Strike, and EX2 in particular).
5. Mortal Kombat (II, 3, and Deception in particular).

There are a lot more fighting series with great music out there, but five listed above are official top 5 of /vr/ by general consensus which was achieved in a poll a couple years ago.

Outside Street Fighter II and its various iterations, fighting games almost universally have terrible cheesy music. It's either loungy jazz or happy hardcore. I just accept it as part of the genre as much as I accept good music to be a component of brawlers or shmups.

I love posting on /vr/. Coming in here and arguing with you guys. Bringing up games you don’t know about or contradicting your opinions. But this thread is right on. These are ALL great soundtracks!

Maybe the question should be why fighting game soundtracks are so good? Is it because their so crucial to the experience that it’s something developers don’t skimp on?

As much as I find X-Men vs. Street Fighter's music overrated, its theme gets me pumped up every time. Maybe because it's actually based on COTA's.
