I want to buy one so I have every sega home console besides the mastersystem, and to play panzer dragoon and nights.

The problem is that even buying one of those red pseudo saturn carts and a saturn is probably going to be pretty expensive. The most expensive retro console to get plus a flashcart except for n64. Just got an n64 for 50 dollars and about 80 for ed64.

Probably about an equal price for a saturn plus pseudo saturn cart, 50 for the cart plus 60-80 for a saturn and cables.

For Sonic 1 and 2 it saves game data, Sonic 1 has optional spindash, and also includes a time trial mode for all 4 games, and keeps your time records, same with special stages of all games.
Sonic 2 has some slowdown issues (but the same happens in the original, just in different parts), and due to CD streaming, the audio works differently (music always restarts when you take the speedshoes), and some sound is different (although I believe it's supposed to sound actually better than the originals, can't tell really, very minor details). The games feel proper, they're not emulation, and play great with the Saturn pad.
Also, the version of Sonic 1 is the japanese version with the better scrolling effects.

Sonic 1 has spindash and a fix of the spike bug (spikes kill you even when you are supposed to be invincible after taking a hit, so falling on a spike bed kills you no matter what).

Sonic 2 has the Super Sonic bug fixed, where if you jump in the air with 50+ rings after beating a level, you transform back and forth and get stuck in midair, and you can't progress to the next level since you can't run off the screen.

In return all the games have fucked sound effects, low quality music, no proper music speedup on the speed shoes (the music restarts), and a shitload more slowdown.

I suppose the Sonic 2 splitscreen doesn't bug out on a Framemeister but that's tangential.

Well, you did decide to order a controller from japan when you could've got an american one much quicker. But I guess if you really want a white or gray one, that's the price to pay.

On a similar note, I really wish the Dreamcast used the same controller ports as the Saturn. Like how the Master System and Genesis both used the same 9-pin socket. And I prefer the Saturn's d-pads and it would've been great to play DC games with it.

I use a modchip so I'm not familiar with the AR cart flashing process, but I imagine you need to read the data off a disc. I wouldn't mind the Sonic 2 slowdown, but it's got absolutely fuck-all to do with what's on the screen. It just slows down for no fucking reason outta nowhere, and it's annoying.
on Genesis, it'd only slow down if you lost a bunch of rings while a lot of other things were on screen/were near water/were playing 2 player mode

There's slowdown in S1 and S3&K too in Jam, but it's nowhere near as noticeable as in S2, although it's still got nothing to do with what's happening on screen.

the other annoying issue is that all the sound effects in Sonic Jam's ports sound kinda like ass
there's a valid reason (limited audio RAM), but it doesn't change how bad it sounds, especially the ring noise

Jam's still worth playing for the presentation and added features, and Sonic World is cool (shame about the camera), but the actual experience of playing the main games in it isn't as good as it should be.

I have both the genesis sonic games as well as sonic jam on saturn. I don't really think of sonic 2 (or any of them, for that matter) having any slowdown issues on the original hardware. Maybe if there's a particular spot with a ton going on and you get hit and your rings go flying or whatever. But yeah, in the sonic jam version of 2, it plays like absolute dogshit. The other games aren't nearly as bad though.

I was in the same boat as you, it was much cheaper to buy a saturn without controller and buy the controller separately, so I bought one from Japan, but in the meantime had no controller. I bought some cheap third party controller on Amazon "old skool sega saturn" and when I get the original controller that is grey like the sega saturn I'll just return the third party controller.

Feels good being a nigger and abusing amazon return policies.

I bit the bullet and bought the analog pad yesterday. I was desperate enough to even pick up one of those "old skool" 3rd party controllers, but none of the game stores in my entire region had those.

Is burning at 4X or under a meme? Other places I look, people are too afraid to even go over 2X speeds when burning games.

What modern CD-RW even lets you burn that slow? The slowest mine goes is 16x.

Anyone know where to buy a Pseudo Saturn pre-flashed cart with the memory? Seems they are off ebay now

It's a meme. I burn all my saturn/dreamcast games at max speed and they work perfectly fine. This myth stems from two things
1) differences between audio CDs vs data CDs. Even if the write speed matters, it's only ever been something that's applied to audio CDs and slight differences in the audio quality
2) even if this was true, it would've only applied to shitty early generation CD burners and shitty CD-Rs from back in the day.

Various Saturn games have their music as CD-DA audio data.
