Let's talk about ports or games that were "reworked" for other platforms. Ports that are
>weird
>terrible
>underrated
>different
>unrecognizable
What comes to mind?

the whole Game.com library (like what, a dozen games?) was fucking weird

It looka horrendous, but I can't help but be impressed by Resident Evil 2. There's no characters or anything, but they accurately recreated every single room, hallway, and hidden passage. Pretty decent work.

Can we just get it out of the way and say that ZX Spectrum ports are low hanging fruit?

Re-Volt on Playstation. The game is too much for the PS1, and it looks like ass. Although it does have PS1 flare into it, more cars (pre-Dreamcast), and there's ICEBERGS in the last level taking place on a ship.

Awesome. I have the 64 version, didn't even know the game was released on PS1. The pop-in and textures look awful in this version.

If the Mega Man DOS port interests you, check out Super Mario Bros. Special for the PC-8801

>> No.5056517

Unrelated. Is looking up the stage order for mega man games considered bad form? Never played the series before.
Anyone played statecraft 64. Does it handle as bad as I think?

Anything ported from arcades to microcomputers, basically.

Dragon's Lair on the NES, Space Ace on the SNES.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKIN'?

>> No.5056957

>>5056538
After watching Mike "9-inch-pike" Matei breeze through Dragon's Lair on NES, I think I understand what it was going for a bit more.
In order to avoid the obstacles and not die, you need intimate knowledge of each area and a solid ability to memorize the order that hazards come in - just like Dragon's Lair on an arcade machine. They just made it play/control like a platformer to appeal to the Nintendo crowd. So in reality it's a series of quicktime events cleverly disguised as a platformer, unfortunately it just comes across as an awkward, clunky platformer.

King’s Quest 5 on the NES, reprogrammed by Konami. Not nearly as impressive as when the system got Maniac Mansion, but it’s competent enough.

why were DOS ports usually ass?

>> No.5058720

>>5058716
They were most of the times developed by amateur studios contracted by publishers like US Gold or Hi-Tech who didn't give a single fuck about quality.
What surprises me is that japanese companies allowed them to do that with their IPs. But I guess japanese didn't give much of a fuck about DOS ports. It could potentially hurt your franchise though. The first time I played Mega Man was on DOS, and I avoided the series thinking the console games were just as bad.

I hated that trope and still do. I'd rather play the original game at 5fps than the watered-down Tiger LCD tier shit that publishers trick people with.

>>5055919

There's surprisingly few Spectrum ports given the "reimagining" treatment. The only 2 I can think of off the top of my head are Paradroid/Quazatron and SQIJ.

I think you should at least give it a go without the pattern. The boss fights are one of the best parts of the games and the weaknesses are rigiculous sometimes, like 6 or 8 shots to kill them. You may get through a battle without even seeing all their patterns. Maybe look up weaknesses when you hit the boss rush but in most(if not all) of the classic series your weapons don't recharge between fortress levels and you may want to save something for Wily.
