I'd like to discuss this great game, I've come back to it recently and have been hooked.

Sometime needs to make a game like this, but the dungeons and city are more interesting. Have it so the dungeons are more complex than noodle mazes, procedural generation has come a long way.

With modern tech they could do some really neat things. I would also hope for some more character development. I've heard the sequel to this game was awful unfortunately

I occasionally have songs about the music from the game -

Most of it's pretty bad, but this song is so memorable.

One of my favorite games of all time. I still get the urge to play it on rainy summer sundays because that's they type of day it was when I first got the game.

>>5053854
Yeah, the DS game is horrible. I could only stand playing it for a couple of hours. The tower isn't randomized and it has a really awkward control set up. Plus it's only vaguely related to the original, anyway.

>>5053874
I actually really like most of the sound track, even if most of it is just variations of the main theme. I like the music for the volcano floors and the forest floors in particular.

instead of posting the cover art to this "great game" why don't you post a screenshot of the actual game itself?

the cover art looks much better than the actual game man

Make it so the main character has way more abilities and customization.

Have the monsters take a lot more shit from Pokémon, meaning more types, more abilities, etc...

Have bosses every 10 floors. Maybe have some hand-crafted puzzle floors that appear at random, but once you solve them they never show again.

Have more random events and locations like the spring of mist in dot hack, people who need saved, merchant monsters, etc...

>tfw you spent a ton of time grinding red and blue sands for a super powerful sword and shield then accidentally lose them and save the game late one night as you're drifting in and out of sleep

FFFFFFFFUCK
I'll revisit it again someday but that's just too soul crushing

How does this game play? It looks interesting but isn’t there some type of social sim part of it? I read about it and it sounded neat but also kind of weird

You go into the randomly generated dungeon and climb the tower, collecting items and monster eggs. Then you can use an item to warp out when you're in a sticky situation or you can no longer progress. Sell loot, use cash to upgrade various things in town like your house (you can even buy furniture and a fucking jet bike), talk to the villagers, woo the babes, villagers will also give you quests to find certain items in the tower to progress the plot.
It's definitely worth a play, nothing else quite like it.

That sounds really cool. I’ll have to go find an eboot and download it

I remember spending hours taking 3 pita fruits, a Barong, and a wind crystal into the tower to look for rare items like the Trained Wand. This game really spoke to my autism. Thank you for reminding me of fond memories.

Somehow I was aware that this game was on the gameboy but didn't know it was on PS1, i'll have to check it out

To those in the know, how bad is the GB version compared to this?

It's laughably bad on the game boy. The playstation version is the only way to go.

>finally get to the top of the tower
>expect a cool final fight
>it's actually impossible to win and you're supposed to lose
Can't say I wasn't disappointed but whatever, still a cool game.

I had an acquaintance that said she loved this game but could never beat the final boss. When I asked how, she said she had used an infinite health code to get to the top of the tower and couldn't figure out how you were supposed to beat him.

I've never played the GBC version myself, but from what I remember, they're basically two different games.

The playstation version has much fewer monsters and doesn't have the basement that the GBC version has. However, most of the monsters have unique abilities, and for what it's worth, there is one monster in the game that didn't make it to the GBC version for some reason. You also meet fewer people inside the tower itself in the playstation version, only meeting Gosh and Selfi on the second floor. The playstation version makes up for this by having a town that the player can build up, adding new buildings to it, many with mini-games such as a casino, a horse track, and a theater. There's also seven girls you get to romance.

I owned the game back in the day. Bought it because I was getting into JRPGs and it looked like a JRPG. Got to the dungeon and it's just these corridors and your guy runs at lightning speed for some reason, couldn't make head or tails of it, never played it again.

>> No.5057625

Shit, I started this game fucking months ago, got busy with some shit, and haven't gotten back to it yet. I think I saved mid-tower, about 20+ floors up. I've got the first two waifus charmed (the tomboy and the magic preppie), was working on wooing the sick chick. Don't remember which monsters I even had with Me, but if I was going deep into the tower, I'm sure that electrified squid fucker was one of them.

The shitty thing about this game is that it's one of those "every song is just a variation of the same fucking track" deals, shit gets boring after a while.

While watching Made in Abyss I felt that the setting for that combined with stuff from Azure Dreams would make for a cool game.

For those who haven't seen/read Made in Abyss, the setting is that it centers on an island town that formed around a giant hole in the earth that appeared one day. You've got people of various ranks that go down into the hole, higher the rank the further you're able to go down. There's various traps and dangers within as well of course, like on one floor there's a gas of some sort that alters your memory if I remember correctly and another where everything is shifted upside down.

Take that and add in the town building and sim elements from Azure Dreams and add in other random events and it seems like it could be a decent game.

I appreciate the (You).

If you held down the circle button, and there weren't any monsters nearby, the character did move through those hexes remarkably fast.

>> No.5058006

Yeah that's why you wouldn't just take everything from Abyss but a hybrid of ideas from the two. Could have it so that every 5th or 10th floor has a Base which allows you to go back up.
