It's still playable on the DC, GC, and PC. DC and GC require a few extra hoops compared to the PC.

PC is the most active way to play, but you can still get games going on the DC and GC.

DC and GC: https://sylverant.net/

PC: https://ephinea.pioneer2.net/ (server usually has a higher player count, but people are taking a break after a big event that just happened)

You should play the PC or GC version so you can be and see Best Girl, though.

Thought I'd add that the GameCube version (and modded Xbox) version support split screen although these days most people have multiple PCs good enough to run Blue Burst and that's a better multiplayer experience - unless you REALLY love couch co-op which I kinda do.

The game itself is very balanced and relies more on stats than dexterity. If you want an easy time though, go for an android character. They get the best overall attack power and their ailment traps have a 100% infliction rate. Difficulty curve is fairly sharp when you change to hard and even bigger when you change to ultimate.

Look up a guide for feeding a mag and don't put it on the back burner. The more time you spend feeding it mid-mission the less time you spend in mag feeding rooms with a stopwatch.

>If you want an easy time though, go for an android character.
Androids are great in parties (or for Normal skilll play where Shifta doesn't really matter) but the lack of Shifta can certainly hurt when going it alone. But yeah, still nothing's as good as a good old freeze trap. Androids rock.

>>5044643
Your only real hurdle will be the controls. It won't take long to conquer them, but there absolutley will be some initial discomfort. I suggest you look up the Dreamcast button layout and replicate it on your controller. You do have a controller, don't you? May the Great Light have mercy upon your soul if you don't.

PSO is one of those games that doesn't do much but what it does do it does really well. Basic shit like the speed at which bullets fire and the impact recoil as they hit enemies is exceptionally satisfying. Art design is superb and although it's basically a 2D plane dinosaur killing grindfest, it has a certain mysterious atmosphere that makes you feel like if you JUST played a bit longer you'll find some secret weapon / magic door / blue Rappy.

Mines 2 is the most atmospheric environment of any video game ever made.

I played this game on my dreamcast and never got very far on any character, probably made like 5. Always had a lot of fun. I played it again years later on the gamecube and only made like 2 characters probably the same and still had fun. PSO's art direction is surprisingly good. I think it speaks well to the game's art direction when a team that consists of a hulking killbot armed with guns, a space elf that dresses like a goth stripper that uses swords twice her height, a 11 year old jester girl blasting people with a pistol and spells, and a stern-looking space marine man all looks perfectly natural instead of ridiculous.

Also, I noticed this years ago, but Episode 1 seems to have a "theme" to its locations that slowly and organically takes the player from simple nature to an alien location.

Forest - Nature, with a man-made location at the end. It's calm, relaxing, and feels friendly, despite the hostile wildlife.

Cave - Fusion of nature and man-made locations. The deeper you get into it, the more man-made devices appear. This weens you in for the next location.

Mines - Full-brown man-made location. Any sort of "nature" is gone as you go through a giant mechanical fortress with robot defenses.

Ruins - Both the nature theme seen in Forest and the mechanical locations seen in Mines taken to the final level. "Nature" consists of alien goop and strange organic devices, while "man-made" uses a mechanical style that doesn't fit with the style you've seen in previous locations. While technically a fusion of nature and man-made, like in Caves, the alien design tells the player he better be ready for some serious shit.

you are gonna need potentially four different guides

first you need http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1021

This is a relevant feeding chart. What to feed your mag depends on your class and what the highest stats on it are so now you need to look at http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1240 to determine how you need to raise your mag to get the photon blasts you want. Since you are making a hucast mag the only thing you want is twins so that means for the first 50 mag levels your mag should have more dex than the rest of your stats combined but the second highest stat needs to be power. You still want to check that guide though as your section ID determines what form your mag takes at level 50 and what you need to raise a rare mag.

You could use external software similar to Joy2Key to accomplish this, of course there's only so many unused buttons on a controller in PSO. I suppose you could use the two unused shoulders, back/select, analogue stick buttons and the axis on the right stick... I guess that would cover 9 out of the 10 slots. But it hardly seems worth it, the game's quick menu is good enough.
