are these any good?

>> No.5034882

Pseudo is a pretty good mod but it's not hard to make yourself you just need to be able to burn a CD and successfully do a swap-trick boot one (1) time

>> No.5034957

>>5034882
the price for these customs is the same as an AR cart and according to the ebay listing these are "more reliable" than the flashed ARs

>> No.5035851

>>5034957
The 29 dollar one doesn't act as a ram cartridge so you're either gonna pay extra or give up some good games like Dungeons & Dragons Collection, Vampire Savior, X-Men vs Street Fighter and a bunch of SNK fighters

>> No.5035869

>>5034957
Really? They cost a buck?

>>5034853
Ideal if you can't mod your system or flash an old card.

>> No.5035871

>>5034853
Does the switch mean no glitches on the 1 meg games?

>> No.5037467

>>5034882
But to do the swap trick you need to take apart the Saturn to block the sensors. You might as well install a mod chip (which is a super easy solder job).

I say this as someone who did the above and realized I should've just bought a cart already flashed or got the mod chip

>> No.5037701

>>5037467
By that logic instead of a mod chip, you might as well just install a Rhea since apparently all these things cost the same - "a buck"

>> No.5038134

>>5035871
Yes.

>> No.5038135

It remains to be seen how reliable they are but having both pseudo Saturn and a working memory card is great.

>> No.5038243

>>5037701
>simple decades old parts cost the same as new complex hardware
Cool logic kid

>> No.5039982

>>5034853
I bet they ruin your cartridge port. Just like all 3rd party carts do.

>> No.5040004

>>5039982
There is literally no reason to ever remove the cart ever again after you insert it so I don't see how it can.

>> No.5040171

>>5034853
I did one with a cheap chinese knock-off action replay with a random sticker on it.
It was £13. I was expecting it not to work.
But it did.

Only thing now with it, is getting the cart to boot up right. Not because the flashing went wrong or the cart is faulty. It's just what Sega Saturns are like with RAM carts. A pain.

>> No.5040206

>>5034882
Problem is, once you take it apart to do the swap trick, you can already play backups. So the card it a waste of money and has less compatibility than the modchip anyway.

Also almost none of the 4mb games are worth it, not in this day and age when you can play the superior arcade versions easier.

>>5037701
>5 minute solder job costs the same as a $1000 sd loader

nice logic.

>> No.5040260

>>5037701
When I bought my action replay for my pseudo Saturn cart last year, the cheapest they came was like $32.

The Saturn mod chip is like $40 and you can get a soldering iron from harbor freight for $8 with solder if you don't already have one. So it's a bit more expensive but not much and worth it imo because you can still use your ram cart/save cart

>> No.5040264

>>5040260
But the one that OP listed is an all in one that acts as a regular PS cart would, has the ram capablities, AND has 8 megs of storage space for saving your games like you would on a save cart.

>> No.5040270

>>5040264
My mistake, the one listed by OP does not have the saving function, but the seller has another cart that does all the things I listed. I bought one and shipping took a little less than a week. I use it on my non-modded Saturn that acts as a backup for my modded one and it has given me no issues.

>> No.5040271

>>5040264
oh really? that's awesome

>> No.5040304

>>5040004
>there is literally no reason to ever
>back up your saves
>play games with ROMs
>netplay
>dump/debug
wew lad

>> No.5040319

I've given up on being facetious in this thread so I'm just going to spell it out, in order

>eBay Pseudo with no other functions: $29
>Real Pro Action Replay with 4m RAM and backup: $32
>Phantom modchip: $40*
>eBay Pseudo with 1m+4m RAM: $42
>eBay Pseudo with 1+4m RAM and memory card: $52
>Rhea ODE: $150

So hopefully you can see that as I said to begin with there's basically no reason to buy a modchip any more. All these eBay Pseudos are just presumably regular PAR4M+ that have been modded using established methods so you have the option to either do the labor yourself or buy it predone. I would be curious if the $29 option still functions as a 4m ram cart, now that I really think about it so if anybody buys one please report back about it

Yes. This is a (relatively simple) example of a Saturn modchip. Not something anyone's going to manufacture themselves for a buck. Jackoffs like him are becoming my number one irritation on /vr/. All they do is muddy the waters, contributing nothing even if they did know something that might be useful to the discussion - which they don't.

Yes. The MCU, which is often a PIC like most PS1 mid chips, is wired between the main board the the drive board. As you can see in this pic >>5041459 All the chips are cheap off the shelf parts. Literally pennies each.

This, plus the PCB itself I doubt a breadboard would fit in the case although I suppose the jerkoff would just wire it all up with a bundle of wires - and I'm sure he's implying he would solder the ribbon cable as well since he has superhuman soldering skills and his time is worth nothing. Jerkoff is a jerkoff.

I see, well that's good info but with 4gbp for international shipping final cost is $25. That does come out cheaper than one of those HK Pseudos on eBay assuming that they lack the 4m RAM feature

>> No.5045487

>>5045448
You're not including the cost of your time to unpack the thing, plug it in, the increase in your electric bill, etc. The actual cost is pretty to close to that $>9000 you originally claimed.

>> No.5045660

>>5045487
Well, the average person will spend at least half an hour more installing a Phantom chip than plugging a Pseudo in and probably considers their time to be worth $8/hr or more.

>> No.5046128

>>5045660
$15 is the "living wage" and the "average person" can't change the batteries in their remote let alone install a mod chip. All irrelevant to you being wrong about a mod chip costing $1M and a pseudo costing a buck. See what I did there, kiddo?

I bought the deluxe 1mb/4mb/back up save one last week. The dude shipped from Hong Kong to NYC in 7 days which was pretty surprising. The thing works like a charm so far. PseduoSaturn self test indicates that the 1MB/4MB switch works as intended and games (that supported direct-to-cart saving) are properly detecting the cart as a save cart. Shame the dude is apparently out of the black shells but the red one doesn't look terrible with a black saturn at least.

>> No.5049491

I think the red one looks nice with my white Saturn but I am concerned about the colour fading over time as it does seem to be made out of shitty plastic. It seems otherwise well built but I doubt the plastic will be the same colour in a year or two

Whatever you do, DO NOT keep plugging third party carts in and removing them from the cartridge port. It will absolutely fuck your port and there is no easy fix. I thought this was a meme at first from hearing about it for years but now two of my saturns won't read my pseudo saturn cart.

>> No.5049783

>>5049684
It it a bit of a meme though. Half the time these supposed "fucked ports" are actually still working but the cart is shoved too far in. Try moving the cart up EVER SO SLIGHTLY. Often the Saturn will be able to read it then.
