You can install IE5+Active Desktop, and use FTP in Explorer. Also, SMB networking should still interoperate with modern systems (probably after some configuration on their side).

It will have a noticeable lag on Pentium compared to native list view control, though. On the other hand, you can edit the HTML template to include social network buttons.

Why would you ever want to do that? The IE4 desktop upgrade was cancer. That was the exact moment Windows became pure bloatware. Slowed my Pentium that ran 95 at light speed to a pathetic crawl.
