Was Genesis a popular enough band to have a console named after them in 1989?

that is a very good question. They were on their way out when the console came out, devs should've known this

I'd imagine Phil Collins. Would the Sega Saturn have done better if they named it the Sega Phil Collins? Would the Mega Drive done better in Europe if it was named the Mega Phil Collins?

They were still proggy and good until Steve Hackett left. Trick of the Tail is one of their best albums.

They only got real pop shit at Abacab - there was still a lot to like in Duke despite the piss poor production

Fun fact: Remember the infamous blood code in Mortal Kombat? The combination was a reference to the Genesis album, Abacabb. So it's a Genesis game referring to the band Genesis.

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. Sussudio is a great, great song and a personal favorite.

I like both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins Genesis (all the way through We Can't Dance).

Then again, I'm also the same kind of guy who equally enjoyed both Super Nintendo and Genesis, and enjoyed any of X-Boxes and PS2/3/4

>Also, Lamb is the most overrated album of the Gabriel era. It's a mess.
I used to think that at first, then it clicked.
It took me years of listening though, but it became my favorite.

>> No.5019272

>>5019261

The production of Lamb was ridiculous. Gabriel was MIA, leaving the other four to write most of the music.
But since they had to fill a double album without one of their key songwriters, they started digging up everything.
Even old shit from when Ant Philips was in the band. They recycled a ton of stuff from their early BBC show, amongst other places.
Then Gabriel waltzed in, wrote lyrics for the whole mess in under a week that the rest of the band hated, but it was too late to change anything.
I'm glad you dig it, but even the band feels it's an incohesive mix of half-baked music with a threadbare "story" linking it all.
