I just beat this for the first time today. System Shock 1 is one of my favorite games, but for some reason I never bothered to play through 2 until now.

Is the consensus really that Body of the Many is the worst part of the game? That's usually what I've seen people say online, but I found the Rickenbacker to be a lot worse. Not that it was hard, the game throws healing items and modules at you left and right, but I found the design of the area and the encounters to be really irritating. Overall the game was very enjoyable, particularly the writing and atmosphere (Though the big "reveal" would've had a lot heavier of an impact had they not put so many obvious audio logs alluding to it), but it'd be impossible to miss the rushjob of everything after deck 6.

If you haven't played Prey, you should give it a shot. It's absolutely incredible and might as well be System Shock 3. I don't even know if the real SS3 will live up to the standard set by Prey, but here's hoping.

Is it even the same franchise? For me Don't Fear The Reaper starts immediately playing in my head in a midwest diner setting when I think of Prey and there couldn't be an image further away from System Shock.

Then again... Redneck Rampage x System Shock when?

If you're a System Shock fan I'd recommend playing it on Nightmare with all survival options enabled (oxygen management, weapon degradation, traumas)

Yes. You can enable the original DOS faces in the main menu under Modifications -> Mods. You can rebind anything you want and there are defaults for both enhanced and classic controls. I recommend giving the classic controls a shot first.

Before the source port update, it was possible to get the Enhanced Edition to look exactly like the DOS version if you wanted to, but the source port has the interface of the Mac version, which looks slightly different. The faces are the biggest thing though, and you can change them.

I wouldn't recommend playing it in widescreen because the interface just stretches. The game still looks best at 640x480.

Basically, if you want complete DOS accuracy, you'll need to play the Classic edition (which has some performance issues and has to run in DOSBox) or find the previous version of the Enhanced Edition. But overall the differences are minor and the source port is still the way to go.
