Reviewers were so wrong about this game at the time, it's no Quake, but it's not that bad either

I'd like to shill MAX - Mechanical Assault and Exploration but it's in a bugged state that causes crashes or freezes at some point while I like the gameplay. MAX 2 was more stable but wasn't like 1, even though similar in many ways, and just less fun.

So I'm shilling KKND instead. It's a hard RTS that often puts you at a disadvantage, especially if playing mutants, and one in which the AI actually retreats and attacks with mixed unit compositions... and also with misguided veterancy, allowing your units to attacks your other units to gain veterancy ranks if you have the resources and want an elite squad. As units gain veterancy by damage dealth and infantry veterans heal themselves it's also possible to exploit one to get more infantry veterans. The save feature can also be exploited to make the AI forget to rebuild upon loading if something has been destroyed and not yet been rebuilt elsewhere. Units can also fast fire by constantly changing targets which resets their reload timer but which doesn't work for units with turrets.

It's fucking horrible. The engine is very limited (more primitive than Doom in some ways) and the levels are extremely monotonous and unfun. The artwork and gunplay are pretty nice, but they need space and good levels to breathe.

Doesn't MAX have a source port?

Also, i'd like to shill some Carmageddon - it had some fucking advanced technology for a DOS game, physics and huge levels and environmental interaction and shit.

Anyone know what happened with BloodGDX a month or so ago? The developer took it down with some type of special announcement coming, then it came back online like nothing happened and no announcement was given.

>it's not that bad either

That's basically it. It's just "not bad". The main reason it gets overlooked though is because it was trying really hard to be Quake, but it doesn't even come remotely close to that level, so there's kind of no reason to play it when you can just play Quake instead.

It's called Max reloaded and is it's own thing that tries to copy the original. It doesn't support an AI for solo matches.

Any advantages you'd expect from a sourceport. Modern resolutions, easier to load user content, easy to use multiplayer. And it's very accurate despite being a reverse-engineer, it plays original demos without ever desyncing.
