3D: Sonic the Fighters

It really depends on what you want in a sonic game. People who like the level characteristics will tell you 3K is the best.

Personally I want speed over exploration, so 2 and CD are my favorites for 2D and Generations is my favorite 3D.

I don't think Forces is compleeeeete garbage, just mediocre

I find all the other 2D Sonic games unbarable now because I think Mania only has good levels while both 2 and 3 have some that are tedious. Mastering the drop dash makes the game x10 more enjoyable as well.
(Also the fantastic visuals)

The success of Mania entirely relies on nostalgia. I love this game but I also understand people comparing it to a glorified romhack.

What pleases me the most, as a fan of the classic hedgehog, is that Mania appears like a real Saturn Sonic game. It's like you're going back in time, to the point SEGA didn't fuck the Saturn, to an alternate timeline where SEGA isn't full of dicks.

2017 was a strange year, cause there was Forces too, and I appreciated the game. But I won't talk about the OST being longer than the game...

I was holding out for the longest time saying Sonic 3 vanilla was the best entry in the series.

Sonic 3 on its own is all Sonic needs to be. A handful of zones with incredible style. With Knuckles attached it becomes too bloated for me with dud stages like Sky Sanctuary.

However, I have had to re-evaulate this with the release of Mania Plus. Ray and Encore Mode makes Mania Plus the best Sonic game to date.
