>tfw only kids with rich parents had a Saturn
>tfw plebs had 64 and ps1
I remember 1996 and the only kid who had a Saturn had AT&T come to his mansion and install dial-up for Sega channel and online multiplayer which if you remember, at that time, was futuristic and revolutionary.

i was on the fence about this one, but after reading your anecdote, i guess the saturn does take the Cake

I was 15 and I raked leaves and delivered newspapers until I could afford a saturn and a tv. Then my parents said NO, so I had to wait another year and a half until they got divorced. Rich kids you say? Horseshit.

My friends older brother was still living with his parents despite working as a roofer. He made decent money and didn't have to pay rent or food. He had a Saturn, he also had a Virtual Boy, a CDi and a 3DO on top of the more common PSX and Genesis which he had both the 32X and Sega CD expansion for.

He locked his door but it was easy to pick. He would always go party on the weekends and not even play with all his treasures, so we would often sneak into his room and play his stuff all night after making notes of where everything was so we could put it back perfectly so we wouldn't get beat up if he found out.

I wish the dumb fuck would have gotten a NeoGeo instead of those retarded meme consoles. No such luck though. Dumbass.

I bought a Saturn I believe in early 1997 after the second model came out with the better controller. Got Guardian Heroes, Darius Gaiden, and Night Warriors/Darkstalkers 2. Pretty good decision. I paid for it from my lawn mowing job. Mommy and daddy did not.

Retail price for a Saturn was $399.99. That was a fucked up price in 1996.

Sega channel was on the genesis and used a cable connection. Netlink on saturn didn't require dial up for multiplayer only for web browsing and connecting to the chatroom thing.

It has good games though, I don't care how overpriced it was / is. For all the useless junk he bought he could've afforded two NeoGeos.

So what? 16 bit games could be 60... or 80-100. This shit has always been expensive. Doesn't matter what system.

Dial-up wasn't installed. Just plugged in. Was the phone company installing a second line and/or jack? My mom's townhome never needed a visit from the phone company for that kind of thing. Our ISP in 1996 was a local one run by someone she knew so they didn't bother to charge.

Yeah. There was also an in output that a technician needed to install via RF cable.
