Are there any acceptable Link to the Past romhacks?

All these filthy NLoZ screens made me want to play something in the original art style again.

I'm not necessarily looking for lunatic insane difficulty, just for a well-designed game with some surprises. "Fuckhard" is optional.

Can you recommend any hacks, anon?

Parallel Worlds? Don't really play rom hacks

Parallel Remodel.
Also, if you haven't tried it, Ancient Stone Tablets (aka BS Zelda 2) is a surprisingly decent sequel.

Check out the demake of it for NES. Fucking amazing. Would lay down serious cash for it.

THIS. Parallel worlds is one of the few breakthrough hacks. Most of them are shit. Parallel Worlds was decent.

OK, not really a hack is it? It's all original Nintendo code. They just dumped it.

You could technically call it a hack.
Just like you can say the Lost Levels is a hack of Super Mario Bros.

Anyway, you'd be wrong. It's not just a dump. There was an amazing amount of work put into AST as well as BS Zelda in order to make them properly playable. And I'm not talking about just a translation, either.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm still waiting for Zelda 3 Challenge.

I get that, but the work that went into it was all attempting to make it as close to the original as possible. This kind of a hack is way different from something like Parallel Worlds where the point is to change that game.

Which is exactly what AST and BS Zelda (Map 2) do in the first place: Change the game.

>> No.500801

Yeah but not because it is hacked. It's an official Nintendo alteration. The hackers just made it playable and tried to do no changes themselves. I respect that, but it's not the same thing as a hack like Parallel Worlds or Curse from the Outskirts where the fans came up with the plot and level design. The BS Zelda games were created by Nintendo so they had pros making the official release. I understand the OP's question to be about fan-made material.
