hows the new version of project 64

>> No.496670

Shit.

They made just about everything again from scratch, so it's horribly bad.

>> No.496681

>>496670
But it's still slightly better than the old version. Which isn't saying very much.

It really is probably one of the worst things I've ever used. I mean damn. I like that they're still trying though.

>> No.496745

They fixed a couple games.
Broke a lot of others.
Avoid it. Use 1964 instead, or its variants.
On Linux, use Mupen64plus.

Integrated graphics cards apparently have major issues with PJ64. I have a fairly high end gaming laptop (I travel a lot) and I still can't emulate OoT correctly.

Try downloading the Glide64 plugin, that might fix it.

Laptop specs?

My old AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.6ghz, 256k cache) played N64 games wonderfully back in the day. I was young but it was still good to me.

Graphics were ugly as hell on the S3 Prosavage driver though

>> No.496815

I'm in the mood for trying out the latest Glide plugin, what are some extremely obscure games that couldn't run properly on PJ64 1.6?

I can only think of Rogue Squadron, Top Gear Overdrive and Yoshi's Story.

>> No.496824

>>496659
It's better than 1.6, but worse than 1.6.1 Mostly because the guy behind the audio and video plugins jumped ship. While Glide64 mostly eclipses Jabo 1.6.1, Jabo 1.6.1 emulated Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, etc, with a lot less issues than 1.6 did.

1.6.1 was never an official PJ64 release. It consists of updated plugins by Jabo, released without the cooperation of the PJ64 team.

So improvements are done on the emulator and plugins? Where do the most significant changes happen?

I would have read some of the other N64 emulation threads over the last few weeks, but I really don't like reading or being near all of that fucking bickering. I usually skip right by them. Hope this thread doesn't end up that way.

Yeah, I'm talking about you. The guy that is just waiting to put in his worthless two cents. Shut up stupid. Just don't say anything at all. I'd much rather hear from people that have tried every single emulator.

I'm not 100% sure of the status of 2.0's plugins. They seem to be based on Jabo's short-lived 1.7 plugins.

Here's a list of the stuff fixed in 1.6.1 compared to 1.6

Changelog:

Audio Plugin:

tarzan and hydro thunder to have audio now due to buffering changes

Input Plugin:

configuration dialog gamepad polling stops at first hit now properly
ported the polling order from 1.7 which should be more reliable
uses system keyboard names now
updated layout to be more like 1.7 changes

D3D8 Plugin

bugfix: fixed a problem where the plugin could crash if it ran out of video memory
bugfix: fixed microcodes for blast corps, body harvest, ODT, and asteroids
1080: fixed europe region effects
40winks: fixed strange texturing issue
bangoi: sprite edges should look correct
banjotooie: fixed puzzle rendering and other regions
cruisin usa: brake lights work
dragonsword: menu text drawing and scaling fixed
drmario: fixed background in versus mode
fzero: fixed potential triangle overflow issue
goldeneye: fixed calculations of sky triangles
legoracer: fixed players going out of sight
mkart: fixed whomps in bowser castle
mkart: racetrack frame buffer support
oot: end of game subscreen issues
paperboy: fixed map drawing in game
pdark: fixed scanners
tarzan: fixed butterfly and health meter
vigilante8: fixed some textures
zeldamm: fixed day transition borders and lens of truth in snow areas

I don't think you could even play it without that weird train controller anyway. The Evangelion one surely looks interesting.

Luckily the PSX version of Densha de Go can be emulated perfectly.
And even the arcade version if you have a powerful enough CPU.
My 4.2GHz Phenom II X4 965BE can do it fine. My MAME build is optimised for my CPU via compiler flags, though.

But the Eva game is actually neat. It mostly follows the show and the End of Evangelion, although theres an alternate ending where Shinji kills all of the harpys and saves the day. Also no blood (Nintendo policy)

Thats what I thought, but now that I search it up, I'm not too sure. Some games that had blood in the West didn't there, and vice versa. But I know for sure Evangelion has no blood and has a fuckton of screaming. And if you're a fan, its definitely worth a playthrough.

Speecy generates info about your computer and you can Print Screen it to Paint and upload it. Most of the guys I see emulating things have rigs 10 times better than mine so maybe this is a wake up call.

Heh, you've got the same RAM timing as me.

Intel 965 Chipset has Intel GMA X3100 graphics if I'm correct and that's when they started to get decent. My computer's integrated was Intel GMA 3000 (very slow, and low shader support) before I got this Nvidia GT610 for CUDA Video rendering. I love my new card and I'm well aware it's a cheap rebrand.

>>497027
Is it that bad? 1066mhz RAM and an i5 would make my routine so much better. Yeah that cooling doesn't look too good, somebody showed me photos of people with crispy thighs after using them for too long. You have Intel HD and since it's newer you may want to just try different plugins with your emulator.

Trivial fact: Intel GMA 3000 can't even run Sonic CD on Steam.

I did hear they made some timing improvements in 2.0 which affect PD. However, be aware that none of the Jabo graphics plugins emulate PD correctly. However, Glide64 handles the dynamic lighting on NPCs, gloss on weapons, coronas, etc.

Newegg on Black Friday is how I did it. Spent less than $400 USD.
Believe or not, I use a 34" Sony KV-34HS420 Widescreen HD CRT TV as a monitor, connected through HDMI. Would be great if I was able to move it off my floor. However, I'm a 120lb weakling so I can't move it and have yet to call up my friends or coworkers to help me move it.

>>497308
Mine might run slightly better but not much (higher CPU clock and more RAM, also have a RT 7 Lite(basically nLite for 7) Windows installation. Also hard to say if his modded driver offloads TCL and vertex rendering to software instead of hardware.

Also, this laptop runs CS 1.6, Unreal99 and 04, and Quake III Arena okay. Even CSS will run with -dxlevel 80 switch and if its not a custom map (although might if its well optimised, for example de_school2, cs_parkhouse works okay). Honestly, could be worse.

If someone were to overclock a slow integrated GPU that has say Shader Model 4.3 support by a noticable amount, I'm curious as to how beneficial it would be to overclock a faster GPU but with the same Shader support.

I noticed that when overclocking my current GPU, it makes everything worse. Keeping at it stock keeps things nice and stable.

Anyway back on topic, I wonder if they fixed Kirby 64 yet. Last time I played it, a lot of things were either missing or impossible to see.

Well, there's no questioning that. What I actually want to play is N64 port of IJ and Infernal Machine, which supposedly has cooler lighting effects and is regarded as one of the major Factor 5 accomplishments, for streaming data out of the cartridge and forth.

I think PC was the main development platform and the N64 ports were just very tightly engineered.

For Rogue Squadron, I'd probably say so. I'm impressed how close the N64 version is to the PC version. If you run the PC version in 640x480, then aside from less slowdown it is exactly the same as N64.
