Trying to remember the name of this NES game.

It was like a puzzle/ action game. Standard fantasy setting, but played like that game Dark Seed. You walked from place to place. It had a lot of cutscenes You started the game with a magic wand that didn't work. You picked up items with no apparent use. I think you get some gold coins and the only apparent thing to with it is to talk to one NPC who robs you.

Also, you died constantly if you wandered into the wrong place. You walk into the Inn, the peasants beat you up, tie you up and throw you in the basement and the game ends, you walk into the desert, scorpion kills you, or you die of thirst. You walked around and picked up items. Every door was locked.

Anyone facing problems related to x86 software in 64 bit OS like Windows?
I used to install Windows update after some ransomware scare. Since March this year, I am unable to get my keyboard register input in old 32 bit 3D games though mouse works in-game.
Case in point -
>Star wars Shadows of the empire
>Typing of the dead
>Star wars episode 1 pod racer.
>heavy gear 2
Recently I fired up some dos games and I am starting to face same problems.
The reason I think this is the case of 32 bit software because keyboard works in Dosbox's SVN Daum by the Korean dude. And that is a x64 software.
Is there any fix for that? I tried to uninstall old windows update but nothing worked.
Anyone else faced similar problems?

So I'm trying to install FMCB on my PS2, but I haven't been successful. I installed uLaunchELF v4.40 CD, FMCB 1.953 (the noobie package), and PSXLauncher. I put the uLaunchELF on 3 discs (just to be sure, I burned the BIN version, the ISO version, and the ISO version at 16x rate rather than 24x) and put the PSXLauncher and FMCB on a USB drive. I went to launch it in Swap Magic, but to no avail.

What's the best way to start a free blog or website to publish info about games? I have some original research (well, that's best I could describe it) that I want to share, and I don't think a forum post would make sense (and I don't know what forum would be good anyway).

>>4979880
I understand your concern, I have been in the same place. I have both a US NES and an AV-modded famicom.

For me, it made more sense to get an Everdrive N8 famicom format and an FC to NES converter. For one thing, the converters are way more common for FC to NES than the other way around (in my experience) since mostly it's people in the US wanting to play JP carts, not the other way around.

I don't remember if expansion audio is cart-exclusive to format, I don't think it matters but I can't be sure. Pretty sure it works on both though.

As for FDS games, you're actually better off getting an FDSStick. It's the best option for FDS games. You will need an FDS ram cart though.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. I do actually have a RAM adapter w/ FDSStick but I wanted to expand my options for ROMs. Especially with the recent news for the new firmware being developed that seems more complete than ever before.

FDS support is nice but purely "icing on the cake" for the N8 from my perspective. I know if I want a more authentic experience to use the FDS Stick.

I'm just saying we are hitting a point where people will want to be nostalgic for those systems and will want /vr/ to let them it, and doesn't help that they made an exception with the Dreamcast who's library of games was by majority released on all the 6th gen systems.

>> No.4982517

>>4982512
Dreamcast wasn't an exception because 2000 is a big round number and 1999 is less than it.

Sixth gen is older today than Dreamcast was when the current rules were set. Will all those "bad" games suddenly be good when PS5 launches?

Is getting a modern Dendy a good idea?
They're cheap and don't stink of uranium plastic, the controllers seem nice and you can use famicom/dendy cartridges. There's a guy in the area selling those for ₽150 (about $2,25) which is half the online price, but those could be all chink shit.
For comparison, non-nostalgic NES mini includes only one controller, only has 30 games and can't use cartridges, for thrice the price.

I installed some games onto my Win98 computer, only to realize after that you need the CD to run them. I assumed they were copied onto the hard drive. My question is: can you copy an old CD game onto a computer without need for the CD. It is very inconvenient. I only have like 3 CD-RWs. Also, the CD drive gets very loud.

>> No.4982973

>>4982967
If a game demands to have the CD in, find a CD ROM emulator. Newer operating systems include them.

>> No.4982985

Look for a specific game but can't remember what it's called. It has the following things in it
-3d looks
-Fixed camera
-Mostly brown and dark colors with nice lighting
-Likely made between 1990-2000
-Medieval with maybe magic
-You begin in a town

Probably a dumb question but would Serious Sam be considered /vr/ content? By the general standards it wouldn't because it got released in 2001, but it went in development since 1996, and exists multiple cut versions prior what we got in the end.

I saw a video that implied that you can use TWO graphics cards together in conjunction to get twice the performance power? Is this true? How does it work? Do you need to install special software? Are there compatibility limit? Can you put in more than two cards?

>> No.4983580

not at all, it clearly states 1999 as the cutoff date for being retro, unless you find a build from 1996-1999

No. It's explicitly part of a new genre of FPS as well. Serious Same was the start out the horde shooter genre.

I've noticed it didn't seem to matter when the player character was an animal, but what about women and machines? Did you still say that?

Dreamcast was an exception look at how the sticky reads.
>With the release of the 8th generation of consoles, the Sega Dreamcast will now be considered “retro”
That makes it pretty damn clear the mods just gave into babies with their “muh Dreamcast” shitposting which means give another year or less and they will just let 6th gen roll in.

How do I play the Lufia games on SNES?

>play the first game first
>the very beginning of the game spoils the ending of the second game

I had a lot of fun playing some text adventures on it but otherwise it's nothing special. Try an emulator and decide for yourself.

I always play games in their release date personally. There's probably stuff in the second game that spoils the first one anyway.
