Are there any games that used the middle configuration?

It's literally a standard pad with 6 face buttons and an added analog stick in the middle.
It's actually quite avant garde but only a handful of developers made creative stuff with it, most just copied Nintendo and the right-position.

This image inspired the Wii Remote. it's the reason why Nintendo ordered that hit on Gandolfini.

Wii was the most popular console among actual boomers. My dad got one and he never plays video games.

The superior way to play Quake 64 with a stock controller is using the middle config as a pseudo dual-stick setup.

Secretly, the best way to play is with the gamecube adapter, which gives you actual twin sticks.

He played Wii, mostly just the two Wii Sports. He was a league bowler and very good at it. Got Mario Kart for me.

I think most FPS on the system had an option to use it, but most people never realized you could.

It's a great design if different developers use different configurations for games that take advantage of it.

Nobody did that, not even Nintendo. Like OP said, there's nothing that uses the middle even though there probably should be.

That middle diagram is the only justification for not putting the dpad and stick beside each other, and it's totally pointless... even today, you'd be hard-pressed to think of more than a few games that use a left dpad and right stick.

>majority of audience are kids
>make a giant fucking controller none of them can hold properly

>> No.4943674

>>4943640
It's fairly pointless because the C buttons can double as a makeshift D-pad anyway, so most games that used a control stick and a D-pad just went wit the left configuration since it gives the player access to two more buttons. FPS games and shit generally need both a "change weapons" button AND a general action button, and you can't have that with the middle configuration.

I was 7 when we got an N64 and I never had a problem with holding the controller.

Wrong. If the d-pad and stick are next to each other then only one of them can be placed in an optimal position in relation to the handle. Having a separate handle for each solves this problem.

already mentioned but I want to clarify that sin and punishment was designed to be used with that configuration on purpose
