I've seen sony fanboys use that term against Rare's games while praising games like Crash or Spyro.

Considering I had no access to or concept of guides or walkthroughs when playing sm64 it probably took me around 2 years on off to get all 120 stars as a kid in ~96-98.

Probably finished the game in 4 months 70 stars but some of the star clues were very cryptic especially for an 8 year old who hardly spoke much English and some of the words were completely foreign to me. I remember I had to use my mom's english->Finnish wordbook to try and figure some of that shit out. Was stuck on 118 for ages. I was missing the star in womps fortress where you blast away the wall bit by shooting out of the canon. And I found it by complete accident by just messing around. Last star I found was the second star on the peach slide that you get for completing it under a certain time, which I also got by complete accident just messing around cos I was bored I never figured there would be a second star there.

SM64 was my go-to game between getting new games cos I never got bored of just exploring the castle knowing there were still secrets to find cos I hadn't gotten all 120 stars and the canon on the beach was still locked. After the Yoshi anti-climax I quickly lost interest in the game though I've finished it maybe 3 times since then.
