Yo /vr/, need your help! I'm looking for a new controller for my emulating needs. I currently have the one in the pic; I can't say it's outright horrible, but the analogs aren't very good and it makes playing 3D Zeldas painful at times.
Anyway, I'm looking for something with a good quality/price ratio to use with mostly SNES, N64 and GameCube games. I don't really care whether it's wired or wireless. I'd also like to use it with my MacBook, so being actually HID-compliant is a big plus.
I've considered a couple gamepads, but haven't really found one that would fill all my desires. (and I don't want to buy something shitty)
These are my thoughts so far:

Xbox 360 Wired Controller: gets a lot of praise (MUH BEST CONTROLLER EVA), personally love the mechanical shoulder buttons, membrane ABXY are acceptable. HOWEVER, the d-pad is a complete deal-breaker. It's just that bad.

Xbox 360 Controller w/ transforming d-pad - this one does look pretty good, except:
- $50 for the controller alone and a receiver is needed separately
- would have to import it, can't be bought anywhere in my country (czech republic)
- receiver has retarded drivers, os x compatibility etc etc

Wii U Pro Controller: I've been in love with this one since day zero and I know that Nintendo does their controllers right. I wouldn't even mind the price, unfortunately there are no drivers for PC or Mac with analog support. Guess I would have to code them myself.

Razer controllers: heard they're crap and easily break within two weeks
Logitech controllers: always have some stupid quality issue; they all look like shit (though i could deal with that)
Mad Catz MLG xxxCodMW4xx420: >$100; also looks kind-of retarded
GameCube controller + USB adaptor: haven't looked into this, but I'm assuming it would be expensive

So, what are y'all using for your emooleightors? Don't tell me you're playing N64 on a keyboard. I'm interested in all your thoughts, experiences, recommendations.

>it has poor quality and the analog sticks r clunky and have a deadzone huge when going forward with the left analog stick and i cannot change the analog stick to be normal it is generycally inverted for no reason does anybody know about some software update or anything to fix this
sounds pretty much like what i hate about my current one

Go third-party 360 controller. The d-pads are invariably better, while retaining most of the qualities that make the first-party controllers good. I use a madcatz, which can be a bit twitchy, but higher quality options doubtlessly exist.

For starters PS2 controllers don't have triggers on the shoulders and are buttons instead as opposed to the PS3 triggers.

Personally i do not like the PS3 triggers because the concave shape of them are prone to slipping with your fingers than it would be in comparison to the convex shape of the Xbox triggers but i honestly would use a controller that had shoulder buttons rather than triggers and especially so for emulation.

>> No.493213

Oh, I have that controller in your pic, OP, only it has an interchangeable D-Pad and left stick. It's pretty cool for that and the controller is pretty solid, but the analog triggers are on a single axis. Also, vibration is hit and miss compatibility-wise.

Heard about this thing in a similar thread, seems pretty okay and the extra buttons are perfect for Genesis/Saturn/N64, but some reviews say it's a bit flimsy, even if it's a Hori.

>> No.493234

I don't really care for vibration, but I hate the analog sticks. Huge deadzone and high mechanical resistance can make precise aiming a nightmare.

>> No.493258

>>493234
I don't know anything about resistance, but yeah, the deadzones are pretty big. The precision button on the back makes up for it though.
It's the sturdiest controller I've had (4 years) so I may be a bit biased.

I'm using it now, and it doesn't feel at all flimsy, and the dpad is really nice.

I've been using a USB converter for the original XBOX controller and it's been working nicely so far. Not expensive either.

Well you can find a regular Xbox controller regularly for under 5 bucks. I doubt you can do that with a 360 controller. I prefer wired controllers, so the wireless advantage really isn't there. I like that the 360 controller has bumpers and triggers, but that's the only tangible difference I care about.

Actually, there is one except you need a bluetooth device to use the controller

I prefer wired controllers as well. I see the original XBOX and the 360 controllers more or less as equals. They're basically the same as far as button layout except that the white and black buttons were replaced with bumpers.

Sometimes the bumpers are more convenient, but it's definitely not worth the cost for me to buy new controllers.

I bought an adapter for the Wii Classic Controller going on advice from /vr/. It is an OK controller but the D-pad is less than ideal as you can easily press up or down by accident when you press left or right and vice versa. Even though that person is saying they're retarded, I've heard other people defend the logitech dual action which was more or less the same controller and while the analogs felt nice, the shit lost calibration all the time.
