I know a lot of /vr/ will say no but there's only so much that can be discussed with the same games, so should there ever be a point we consider 6th gen retro? If so when?

>> No.4927069

Obviously PS2 should be considered retro now, I'm in my 30s and I played FFX in high school.

Personally, I wish 6th gen would be allowed and nothing after ever but we know a few years from now people will want 7th in so I understand the fight to keep it where it's at. Slippery slope etc etc.

there is no retro era.
This boards rules have nothing do do with what is retro and what is no isnt

In the sticky
>This board is for the discussion of classic, or "retro" games. Retro gaming means consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier. With the release of the 8th generation of consoles, the Sega Dreamcast will now be considered "retro", though the remainder of the sixth generation (Xbox, PS2, GameCube) will not.

Honestly I think it confuses a lot of people that the Dreamcast is allowed here but the Gamecube and PS2 aren't. Most consider those 3 consoles to be contemporaries.

>> No.4927090

I rather the portable consoles over the home consoles, Mother 3, Blazing Blade and the Minish Cap deserve more discussion than shit like Melee and Kingdom Hearts.

you'll do fine with /v/ nostalgia threads

This foreshadows 6th gen becoming retro when 9th gen comes out.

Yes, but then how can dinosaurs discuss their childhood?

After a certain point in life you're expected to start a family or disappear

banning the 6th gen is counterproductive because it marks the last good generation.
if you want to know what's wrong with modern vidya look no further than the 7th gen.

however, /vr/ works like clockwork because it limits discussion to 1999, so allowing it would also be counterproductive.
the best solution is a 6th gen general. a containment, recurrent thread.

as for the 7th gen and beyond, well, when the ps3 was hacked I went looking for games and the very beginning does feel like the 6th.
games like Afrika, Motorstorm, Haze. it should be allowed the same leeway as the Dreamcast, as in, don't push it.

I didn't even consider PC games, but the point isn't to talk about specific games, but rather to have more to talk about. If all we're allowed to talk about is only 20 years worth of games for the rest of time this board is going to get very stale.

no

>>4927064
no, the retro shouldn't be extended. The reason is, that there are barely any other retro like titles after the retro period.
It would make more sense to make a new category to and put all retro games into the classical group and then have a wider retro spectrum. So tehre would be classic games as a theoretical subcategorie of retro games.
