You can get through the entire game with just Heal and Crush.

Which still need to be leveled up.

It's and Action RPG! If you don't like leveling shit, your playing the wrong genre.

Which will level up naturally since that's all you have to use anyway.

>> No.4926512

>>4926459
True to some extent, but there is a happy medium in which leveling should come naturally but also allow you to take advantage of grinding if desired, more work = more reward. What's not entirely great is when a game feels like you need to grind for a long time to make any progress, only to be put into another situation in which you must spend a long time grinding again immediately to make little more progress, at points like this it feels like a chore which is never good in any kind of game

So you're blaming the game for your own neurosis. got it.

>> No.4926520

>>4926517
There maybe wouldn't be a need to do so if the game wasn't stingy with how many items you can carry also, magic is limited to how many items you have at any given moment which in some areas you cannot find certain items for certain spells, which leads one to save magic rather than use it willy nilly. Really the only option seems to be that you have to grind as to take out enemies as easily as possible, since the game makes it so you only want to use healing items/spells sparsely since you could end up quite quickly in a situation in which you run out of either.

>> No.4926542

>>4926520
It's a lesson to not rely too heavily magic and be a bit conservative with how you cast it. The first Final Fantasy and its limited magic pool gets praised for this exact same practice.

You have tons of summons and tons of magic and tons of resources in this game.

You would have to actually not want to explore for it to become grindy

>use crush to max level
>run out of ingredients before the flying machine
>have to level up shit like fireball
>but then again still only have a bone
>but suddenly
>sneeze
>the game is over
the fuck happened

>> No.4926571

>>4926542
Exactly, so the game tells you a. don't waste magic frequently, and b. you can only carry 6 of any item, so save your items as well. Grinding is not so much a choice of the player, it's the only logical thing to do by the game's own scenario

Yeah, and all of those are reserved to nuke the Verminator. Screw that coward.
Is there anything more cathartic in this game than seeing Fire Eyes burning him to ashes?

Just control the dog. In boss battles you can cast the spell that makes his attack always fully charged to end them in seconds.

You can change the dogs behaviour to always attack and always use fully charged attacks. He'll one-shot most regular enemies by the second half of the game, it's ridiculous.

>> No.4931590

Grinding hardly qualifies as playing, why do you think the term as invented? It's work that you need to do in order to get to actual play, and honestly in this game it can be a bit numbing and brainless in particular

>> No.4931625

The music is by Jeremy Soule. He did the music for Skyrim, and Total Annihilation.

SoE was his first game. Hell of a first outing. The OST was equal parts ambiance to actual music and it fit the game so perfectly.

You don't have to grind any weapon except for the bone spear. Other than healing spells, magic isn't needed except for a few spots where you need get past an obstacle.
