Let's discuss one of the most fun systems of the 90s! /v/ fags who have only played Rondo of Blood need not apply

Lords of Thunder is still the most metal game of all time.

Used to have a Duo-R, currently have a Coregrafx, going to get a SSD3 as a “CD flash cart option”

Oh, nice top 10 list with mostly inferior ports of arcade games, reddit.

/r/turbografx is practically dead

that said, the image is by Retro Gamer Magazine, which has a hard-on for the godawful "Speccy"

It gets props for Gekisha Boy and Gomola Speed, two interesting and unique games for the system. Gomola is kind of wonky with its controls, and like all UPL games it just "ends" (you know what I mean if you play UPL games), but the ramp up of challenge and variety is quite nice. And boss fights in a snake clone/remake!
What a thought.

go go Gomola! Don't let anyone bring you down!

I love the turbografx. The PCE-CD has a lot of fun looking JRPGs that I'd love to play translated.

>> No.4921846

One thing I really love about the PCE CD is that there are a lot of games that feel like some 80's/90's anime OVA complete with delicious red book audio

I feel the base mechanics of the Bonk games consistently get underrated. Having the characters head be the side you damage enemies with and giving you a midair flip button is a great take on traditional platformers. The ability to use the flipping to delay falling adds some additional interest to the mechanic.

Bonk’s Revenge is one of the few pce platformers that holds up really well. Too bad Bonk 3 is ass

Bonk and bonks revenge on tg16/pce are awesome and the snes port is fucking fantastic!

Speaking of interesting mechanics in playformers. Why does obelisk and asterix get looked over so much on /vr/?
They are really fun and unique, way better than adventure island, while still overlooked gets way more praise than o&a.

Because they’re relatively unknown games on an 8-bit console that was only popular in Europe and Brazil

Some recommendations on the obscurer side of things -

Metal Stoker: awesome as hell multidirecttional tank shooter. If you liked stuff like Granada on MD you'll dig this. Rocking music too.

Cyber Core: Fun little sentai themed Kung Fu clone. Hard as nails but keeps you trying. Collect powerups to henshin into various colored sentai with different weapons/abilities.

Time Cruise II: No clue if there was a 1 but it's a fun adventure pinball game like the Crush series. Activate time machines around the level to go to various eras with minigames. Not as solid as Crush but has a lot of variety and a brilliant main table theme.

Eternal City: Interesting seeming mecha-themed
Metroidvania with exploration and weapon/ability upgrades. There's Japanese but it doesn't get in the way too much.

Paranoia/Psychosis: weird as hell R-typelike shmup where you delve through a fucked up dreamscape with bizarre imagery, shooting everything that moves. A strange demon flips you off after every level (in Paranoia, the jp version, only). Great music enhances the 'this takes place within a troubled mind' atmosphere.

solid suggestions

Cyber Core was the shooter, you mean Cyber Cross. I like it too, shame the sequel sucks

There was a Time Cruise 1, it was finished and cancelled before release.

The PCE doesn't have a massive library but here's a few under the radar games I'd recommend

>River City Ransom (a 16-bit remake, seldom mentioned)

>Tenchi Wo Kurau (the sequel is a cult-classic on the Saturn and arcades, but the PCE has the prequel)

>Force Gear (an amazing Konami Caravan shooter previously available as a secret mini-game in Tokimeki Memorial, but is now a recent release)

>Coryoon (by the same staff as Air Zonk)

>Minesweeper (only console version in existence, has multiple modes)

>Skweek (popular European puzzle action game, with the only console port on the PCE)
