Just started and I'm getting my shit kicked in... Every battle I find myself frog hopping with enemies. I get behind them, attack, they do the same. Also having trouble trying to figure out if I'm going to throw items into rocks. The music in this game is amazing btw.

>Also having trouble trying to figure out if I'm going to throw items into rocks
When you select a target for the item, it should show a damage number (eg -10 if you're throwing a rock, or +30 for a potion). If there's no damage number then it won't land.

Also note that you get an CT bonus for using "wait"-- that is, your turn will come up more quickly. You also get a bonus for not moving. So if you have any buffs, early on it can be a good tactic to just stand your ground and buff while the enemy approaches.

Try to focus fire and take out one enemy at a time. Go after high-value targets first like black mages or healers, rather than hitting heavily armored knights.

The first handful of battles can be pretty rough, especially if this is your first real playthrough. Trade City Dorter, for my money, is one of the highwater difficulty marks in the game. At a time you're lucky to have a poorly equipped Knight and probably still mostly Chemists and Squires, it throws a fully equipped Knight, Black Mages, multiple Archers (with starting height and distance) and has you cluttered into a corner with obstacles to move past while taking fire from the onset.

After that map, you'll probably find the difficulty becoming more manageable, particularly as newer and stronger jobs that aren't so Gil-intensive open up, like Monk.

It is a rough start but definitely one of my favorite games ever, I need to replay

Do everything you can to get a monk with dual wield skill

What SCCs/SSCCs have you done, /vr/? I ran a Geomancer SCC and it was tons of fun just running away and dealing chip damage.

I like mixing and matching abilities to much to ever do an SCC

Maybe random selection of classes and abilities for each character might be fun.

I'd recommend playing a few random battles in the plains just to earn JP, the merchant city is a tremendous pain in the ass without a few levels gained, and even then it's very difficult.

I would recommend moving Ramza up to the archers with Delita on that battle, and keeping everyone else on the lower level of the building so their knights can't surround you. If you have an archer of your own, any bit of damage will cause their black mages to retreat until they're the only ones left.

>Every battle I find myself frog hopping with enemies.

You're probably engaging enemies whenever possible. This is a fine if brutish approach when you pretty clearly outmatch your enemies. You might take some damage, but you are pretty sure to win, especially assuming you attack first.

Try changing your overall mindset. If you hang back and spread out somewhat, keeping in mind advantageous terrain, enemies will spread themselves more thinly or put themselves in situations where they can't necessarily move around to attack your flank. This is basic Sun Tzu shit; bait them out of position and wait them out and chances are they will present a golden fuckup for you to take advantage of.

Change ramza into a chemist, learn auto potion, buy a lot of potions. Change into job of your choice. You are now able to win through most battles. Also let the ai come to you.

Start grinding on the same 2 maps for about 150 hours. By then you'll have the necessary jobs/moves to be able to defend yourself and actually fight back without getting 1 shot killed on the 4th level which is about 30 mins into the game normally.
Cunt of a game and an absolute waste of time, lovely music from sakimoto as always.

SCC?

>> No.4917254

It's the first fucking result on Duckduckgo if you search for "Final Fantasy Tactics SCC." It means "Straight Character Challenge" which is kind of a dumb name but it means that starting from Dorter Slums, you can only use one class for the rest of the game. SSCC means "Solo SCC" which is the same thing but you can only use Ramza. There's a long and autistic list of rules if you read the FAQ.

We are on this board to talk about retro games, are we not? If you know the answer to a question answer it. Share your knowledge. Don't throw a shit fit because the answer can be found by googling.

If you don't want to discuss games why are you even here?

Yeah like I said in >>4911828, it might be fun to have some randomized restrictive list of abilities to work with, where you have to figure out the best way to combine whatever you get. But the SCC is just too bland for me.
