I'm thinking about putting together a Windows 95 or 9 VM with PC games from the past, old games up to the 2000

Which one should I choose Win 95, or 98?
What are some must PC games from those old ones?

I would go for Win 98 Second Edition. I remember it being a lot more stable than 95 or earlier 98. It also didn't have the compatibility issues of 95, though that might be something to do with the crappy pre 5.0 directX.

I spent a million hours playing Age of Empires and II. Some adventure games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango too

Was mostly into emulators so can't help you more than that
